On Friday, starting with 20:00, the Sevilla – Inter match will be played, within the Europa League final, scheduled in Cologne, Germany. The last act of the competition will take place between two teams that have never met before in official matches. In the semifinals, Sevilla had Manchester United, score 2-1, and Inter defeated Sahtior Donetk, score 5-0.
Sevilla is living a true love story with the Europa League, where it reached the 6th final without much emotion. The Iberians won all the previous 5, a competition record. The last success took place in the 2015/2016 season, when Unai Emery’s Andalusians won the third consecutive trophy. In this edition, Sevilla finished on the first position in a group with APOEL, Qarabag and Dudelange, then eliminated the Romanian champion, CFR Cluj, in the last 16. A success followed with AS Roma in the eighth and Wolverhampton in the quarterfinals, and the Spanish group reaches the final after defeating Manchester United in the penultimate act, score 2-1.
Inter did not perform well in the Europa League, but has 3 UEFA Cup trophies won in the 1990s. After missing the Serie A title by a single point difference from Juventus, Antonio Conte’s students still aim for a distinction in 2020. Known as a coach with modest results in European cups, Conte played a superb qualification in the Europa League final. The Italians finished 3rd in the Champions League, in a group with Barcelona, Dortmund and Slavia Prague. Thus, Ludogorets, Getafe, Leverkusen and Sahtior Donetk had to be eliminated one by one, the last duel in the semifinals being settled by the “nerazzurri” with a superb 5-0.
A very balanced final is announced, in which Inter seems to have value on its side, but Sevilla puts on the table a fabulous European experience in this competition, managing to beat even Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp. We anticipate a duel in which not many goals will be scored, and the first success to intervene only after the minute 28:00.
