On Sunday, starting with 19:45, the Serbia – Turkey match will be played, within the 2nd round of the League of Nations, League B. The two teams have never met before, thus being a confrontation for the first time. Both Serbia and Turkey come after defeats in the first round of the League of Nations and will fight for the first points in the group stage.
Serbia started in the current edition with a defeat, score 1-3 in Russia, the scorers being Dzyuba (2) and Karavaev, respectively Mitrovic. The Serbs dominated the game in Moscow, but the hosts were much more pragmatic and got the 3 points. At the previous edition of the League of Nations, Ljubisa Tumbakovic’s students were undefeated in the matches with Romania, Montenegro and Lithuania, with an 11-4 goal difference. Despite the failure with Russia, Serbia has every reason to hope for progress, especially due to the fact that in the summoned group it benefits from stars like Luka Jovic, Nemanja Matic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic or Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Turkey had an excellent period with coach Senol Gunes, but was severely disappointed in the debut match with Hungary. The Hungarians defeated Sivas 1-0, through the success of Szoboszlai, from the end of the match. It was only the fourth of 13 matches played with Gunes on the bench, in which Turkey conceded a goal and the third of 9 played at home. In the previous edition of the League of Nations, Turkey finished last in a group with Russia and Sweden, achieving only one success, 3-2 away with the Nordic team.
Serbia is favored to a positive result, but must evolve solidly in defense. However, after the defeat with Hungary, Turkey must risk Belgrade, in order not to lose contact with the first position in the group.
