PREVIEW & PREDICTION – Lausanne vs Young Boys 11/02/2018
The second round of the second half is coming up. The Bernese Young Boys take a two-hour journey to compete against Lausanne at the Olympique de la Pontaise. Lausanne is not the favorite opponent of the capital city. Although the record speaks clearly for the Young Boys, the fans of the yellow-black are always scared when the Vaudicans are facing as opponents. The two teams met twice this season. In both games, the home team was able to score the three points. The match in Bern was already decided after 22 minutes. Thanks to a double by Bertone. On Lake Geneva, a winner was found only in the 91st minute. Zarate – a former Bernese – was able to shoot the Lausanne to victory. The Bernese greet from the top of the table and are logical to favor. Nevertheless, the fear opponents of Bern will make for a queasy feeling with Adi Hütter. The match will be kicked off at 15:00 and will probably feature scoring scenes in the first few minutes.
FC Lausanne played every season in the top league until 2003. Due to the bankruptcy Lausanne was downgraded to the fourth league. Thanks to the immediate resurgence Lausanne established in 2006 in the Challenge League. Since 2017, the people of Vaud are back in the Super League and financially better positioned – thanks to a new investor. The western Swiss are currently in sixth place. This is not very meaningful, as the teams in midfield are only a few points away. Between the third and seventh place are only three points! Last weekend’s loss meant that Lausanne lost important points in the race for European places. In the away game in central Switzerland, the footballers from Lake Geneva overslept the start. Goalkeeper Castella was defeated in the first minute. Kololli was able to score shortly before the end. Nevertheless, the match was lost 2-1. Lucerne is currently on the penultimate place. So Lausanne should have won this game. In today’s game a completely different opponent waits for the Lausanne. Therefore, the people of the Vaud should be ready from the beginning. The championship is the only competition this season in which Lausanne could achieve something. In the Cup was already in the second round final. In the home game against GC no goal could be scored.
The captains have a lingering first round behind them. After a brilliant start, the machinery came to a standstill. Four points from two games have already been won against Basel in the championship. More problematic are the games against the weaker teams. The Young Boys have trouble with the role of favorites. Especially abroad were left important points. The Bernese have lost eight points to Thun, St. Gallen and Lausanne. Thus, it is not surprising that the advantage over Basel is only five points. It is finally time for the Young Boys to develop a winning mentality. In earlier seasons, the footballers from the federal city of Bern also the lead of 13 points not enough for winning the title. Since then, YB has a negative reputation. For over 30 years (!) No football title was celebrated in Bern. It is therefore not surprising that the ice hockey team from Bern has more spectators per match than the footballers. The stadiums of both teams are located in Wankdorf. Since 2005, the Young Boys play their home games at the Stade de Suisse. For the new building, the venerable Wankdorf Stadium was demolished. That’s why the name of the new stadium still provides a topic of conversation to this day. At fan groups of the Bernese, the stadium is still referred to as Wankdorf.
This season, a title seems realistic. Also in the cup, the Bernese pushed into the semi-finals. In this wait the Basler. Thus, a title win – as always – the FC Basel contrary. However, YB represents the league’s best offensive. On average, the Bernese achieve over two goals per game. Three of the top five goalscorer in the league are Miralem Sulejmani (nine goals, two assists), Roger Assale (eight goals, four assists) and Jean Pierre Nsame (nine goals, three assists). After a long injury Guillaume Hoarau – last year’s top scorer of the Young Boys – returned to the team. Last weekend, the Frenchman played the entire game and scored a goal in the head.
PREDICTION: Young Boys to win @ 1.40
