Newcastle vs Southampton PREVIEW & PREDICTION 10/03/2018

NEWCASTLE VS SOUTHAMPTON PREVIEW & PREDICTION

At St. James’ Park this weekend the relegation match between Newcastle United and Southampton is on the program. Both Newcastle United and Southampton are still above the relegation streak, but this weekend can not be lost if there is a match against the competition on the program.

Newcastle United:

Newcastle United would like to benefit from all the money available around the Premier League next season, but then Rafael Benítez’s team has to keep up. Newcastle United is of course a gigantic club in England, but The Magpies knew that they would have trouble this season and there is no word to lie about. Benítez has with his team only two points ahead of Crystal Palace, which is eighteenth state, and so they are not there at Newcastle United yet.

There was an end to the undefeated series of The Magpies last Saturday. At Newcastle United, they did not play four games in a row as losers of the field and in that series of four knew The Magpies also handsome 1-0 win of Manchester United, but last weekend Liverpool was too strong for Benítez and his men . At Anfield, Newcastle United could not make a fist, resulting in a 2-0 defeat on a visit to Liverpool. It’s been less than 24 years since Newcastle United last won a league game at Liverpool and The Magpies realized in advance that there was probably nothing to be gained from The Reds, but Benítez might have expected more from his squad at Anfield. Especially since Newcastle United recently won 1-0 from Manchester United, but at Liverpool they have a lot more footballing power and playing football killed Newcastle United last weekend.

When Southampton comes to visit, Newcastle United has to be there again. Earlier this season, The Magpies were able to play in a 2-2 draw against Southampton, but at Newcastle they will probably only be satisfied this weekend if three points are caught. At the own St. James’ Park, the formation of Benítez is already five games unbeaten, but three of those five games were won by Newcastle United. Besides the victory over Manchester United, League Two-club Luton Town (3-1) also lost in Newcastle, but The Magpies played scorelessly against Brighton and shared the runs twice with Swansea City and Burnley (both 1-1).

Southampton:

At Southampton it is not all cake and egg this season. The club where the Dutchman Wesley Hoedt is under contract ended in the last four seasons at the best ten clubs in England, but The Saints are fighting this season against relegation. Despite the disappointing results this season, the club management is still confident that Mauricio Pellegrino will stay in the Premier League with this Southampton, and that is what the drivers like from The Saints. Pellegrino must then quickly get points with Southampton, because The Saints are only one point above the line.

This weekend Southampton is the match against competitor Newcastle United on the program. Last week, The Saints got a visit from competitor Stoke City and the match at St. Mary’s Stadium ended as it started: 0-0. Especially at Southampton they will not have been satisfied with the goalless draw against Stoke City, because The Saints have to win such kind of home games to keep the relegation worries behind. The draw against Stoke City meant for Southampton again the eighth Premier League-game in a row that was not won at St. Mary’s Stadium.

For Southampton it is still quite a job to get points at St. James’ Park. The Saints are doing very bad this season outside St. Mary’s Stadium and Pellegrino will be happy to change that. Southampton was victorious in one of the last sixteen matches outside its own stadium and throughout this season The Saints won only two away games in the Premier League. The Saints lost this season only five times in the league and will probably sign if this weekend is played against Newcastle.

PREDICTION: Under 2.5 goals @ 1.61
