Stuttgart, Hamburg, Hannover, Nuremberg or St. Pauli – the field of participants of the upcoming second league season 2019/2020 reads as prominently as ever. Nevertheless, the second highest German league in recent years was characterized primarily by a tight table situation and quite a few surprise victories. The most well-known example probably provided the 5: 0 success of SSV Jahn Regensburg at Hamburger SV in September of last year. Almost as surprisingly, FC Erzgebirge Aue prevailed 5-0 at the beginning of December at SpVgg Greuther Fürth. The violets celebrated with this result the highest victory in their second division history and therefore have good memories of the Ronhof.
Finally, it will be time again next Sunday. At the beginning of the new season in the Bundesliga lower house are facing from 14:30 clock Fürth and Aue. The odds of the bookmakers again suggest quite clearly in the direction of the “cloverleaf”, although a predicted probability of victory of 44% quite a certain balance implies.
The guests of coach Daniel Meyer have a very good preparation behind them, while the Green-Whites, especially in the last Test matches with similar problems as in the previous year had to fight. For this reason, before the match between Fürth and Aue, we predict that a tip on the supposed outsider will bring the more lucrative value. The fighters from the Ore Mountains are always good for a surprise and also a very unpleasant opponent to kick off the new season, especially as the pressure undoubtedly weighs on the shoulders of the game association.
Fürth:
Spielvereinigung Greuther Fürth has a disappointing season behind them. The former Bundesliga side had to be satisfied with the thirteenth place in 2018/2019 and thus landed for the second time in series in the bottom third of the table. The cloverleaf team, which was one of the most prolific second division players for many years, has long been nothing but mediocrity. Stefan Leitl, who has held the post of coach in the Middle Franconian city since the beginning of February, has so far been unable to overturn the Bock. In the 14 games under his leadership, the Green-Whites were only four victories retract.
There were also six division and four defeats. At least defensively, a development was seen, although the Fürth in the final statement with 56 goals against the second most vulnerable defense association.
It was therefore clear that the coach had to start in the preparation especially in the back area. Apart from the fact that with the former Bundesliga professional Mergim Mavraj a new defensive chief was obliged, put the coach, who started in the last season at FC Ingolstadt with only two points from four games, great emphasis on rehearsing new sequences in the back four. The test matches gave him only moderate success, because alone in the recent four encounters against Eltersdorf, Huddersfield Town (2x) and Augsburg, the sham never left a clean sheet. In addition, the offensive turned out to be harmless.
The self-confidence is cracked and also the fact that Ronhof traditionally high expectations on the players, could turn out to be the start of an uncomfortable opponent as a problem. In the end, we lack the athletic arguments to avoid Fürth vs. Fürth. Aue hinted at the home side, especially since the match association so far only three of the eight matches against home crowd under coach Leitl could decide for themselves.
On loan from Marvin Stefaniak and the mentioned Mergim Mavraj, we are expecting only two new entries in the starting eleven. The Franks therefore put on their Einespielheit. Sebastian Ernst will be the only player to be injured due to injury.
Aue:
If we look at the odds for the hottest relegation candidates before the season starts in the second division, then Erzgebirge Aue – together with promoted SV Wehen-Wiesbaden – traded as a top aspirant on the way to the third division. Really we can understand this assessment of bookmakers only conditionally. Although the Erzgebirge have always belonged to those clubs that are located in the lower segment of the second league classification, but found the “violets” so far, usually a way out, the leap threatening to jump off the shovel. Also in the current season is the primary goal: relegation.
To be well-placed for this endeavor, the people involved in the Lilane leadership became quite creative. Among others, with Marko Mihojevic (PAOK Thessaloniki) or Njegos Kupusovic (Red Star Belgrade) two young East Europeans were committed, which many league rivals were certainly not on the screen. Sören Gonther, who moved from Dresden to Aue, should also provide the necessary experience on the defensive. Similar to the Fürth, however, is not to be expected that coach Daniel Meyer will send more than two new arrivals on Sunday afternoon from the beginning to the square.
The preparation was from the perspective of the previous year-14. quite outstanding. Among other things, Bundesliga club Hertha BSC could be beaten 4: 1 after an enormous performance. In addition, there was a 1-1 draw against Union Berlin or a 3-2 prestige success at Energie Cottbus. There is a certain amount of euphoria among the Saxons, which can be explained by the fact that hardly any top performers left the club. Top scorer Pascal Testroet could be held as well as the mentality players Hochscheidt, Riese, Fandrich or Kalic.
The vigorously strong violets will make life difficult for many (presumed) favorites in the current season as well, bringing in points in foreign lands that many do not expect. By comparison, in 2018/2019, the East Germans took away only six points less than at home. The barely negative goal ratio also suggests that many matches in the distance ran short and were on the proverbial knife’s edge.
The only downer of the otherwise, as described, positive run preparation were various injuries. For example, the relegation candidate has to do without Dennis Kempe and Malcolm Cacutalua for a long time. Steve Breitkreuz will also have to pass the first four to five match days. All the more important is the aforementioned obligation of Sören Gonther, who also won as opinion leaders immediately a strong standing within the team. The offensive with Testroet and Zulechner meanwhile is always good for goals. In our eyes, before the duel Fürth. Aue – due to the high odds – a prognosis on the purple whites absolutely obvious.
