FC KOLN VS MAINZ PREVIEW & PREDICTION
In the basement of the Bundesliga a squatter is on the program on Saturday. Köln absolutely needs a victory in the home match against Mainz 05.
FC Köln:
The club from the Domstad seemed to be playing again for the international break for a serious sprint to prevent relegation. But last week it went completely wrong. On visiting TSG Hoffenheim, FCK lost no less than 6-0. No points therefore, and in terms of goal difference it was also a bad afternoon for the redwarts, who with six games to play six points behind on the opponent of Saturday, Mainz 05. Cologne also has a worse goal average.
It is therefore completely over for the Domstedelingen, but it is clear that there must be won from Mainz. Trainer Stefan Ruthenbeck again pleaded for concentration on Thursday. “It would be wrong to look at the remaining program of the competition,” the trainer said. “We have to look at ourselves and win our own matches.” Ruthenbeck has a fairly complete selection at his disposal.
Mainz 05:
For Mainz 05 it is also an annoying football year, although the concerns at Die Nullfünfer are not as big as at Köln. Yet the sixteenth place, which involves playoffs, is also a place where you would rather not stand. The last few weeks, scoring is a big problem for M05. Last week, the team played 0-0 against Borussia Mönchengladbach. It was already the fourth game in a row in which the team did not score. Then degradation concerns are of course not that strange.
Trainer Sandro Schwarz was optimistic in the run-up to Saturday’s game. We scored the most goals from the five bottom teams, ‘Schwarz knew. That may be true, but 29 hits from 28 matches is certainly not impressive. The arrival of Nigel de Jong, who joined in the winter break, has also not turned out to be a bull’s eye. On Saturday he might start on the couch.
PREDICTION: FC Koln to win @ 2.08
