CHARLEROI VS GENK PREVIEW & PREDICTION
Friday night, the Stade du Pays de Charleroi is the setting for the competition between Charleroi and Racing Genk. Together with Standard, they will compete for that fourth place in play-off, one that gives a right to a duel for a European ticket with the winner of play-off two. The difference is currently one point in favor of Charleroi. Does Charleroi know how to deepen that gap? It could not have won since 19 January …
Sporting Charleroi:
Charleroi has achieved its objective in itself. Participating in the price in play-off one was prepared in advance and that was more than achieved. But since their last victory already dates from the nineteenth of January, Charleroi has given up their nice lead and has dropped to fourth place.
Last week, the national champion RSC Anderlecht got over the floor. After the defeat against Standard, in the meantime it was time again for Charleroi to grab points. The stadium was well filled, ready to shout their team to victory. But barely busy or Charleroi was already on chase. After a good action by Markovic over the flank, he managed to reach Morioka who could make it 0-1. Charleroi was not able to do much more before the break, but at the same time he hardly gave away anything. After the rest, the Carolos came out of the locker rooms very violently. Baby fell for Dessoleil and that immediately turned out to be a change of gold value. Barely a minute in the second half the signs were right again. The storm lay down and Anderlecht came back into the game. On the hour Anderlecht got a rather questionable penalty. Lukas Teodorczyk put it around: 1-2. Half an hour later it was searching but not finding at Charleroi and Anderlecht that made no progress to go forward, but to keep the lead.
After two match days in play-off one, Charleroi has not yet been able to gather points and the gap on both Genk and Standard itself has already shrunk to just one point. Especially the penalty kick they received brought with it many emotions. After all, the quiet Mazzu could not believe it. “The whole stadium saw that it was not a penalty, except for the ref and the VAR, it is a shame!” It is up to him to turn that frustration into positive energy for the upcoming match.
KRC Genk:
For Genk, it is above all the goal to achieve European football. Before that, it was well on its way to achieving play-off one and the cup final. Unfortunately for the Limburgers the latter did not go well so that it can now only achieve through that first European football. For this it must be at least fourth. That battle will have to go with Charleroi and Standard. It did an excellent thing last week in that respect.
It was the cup winner, especially Standard de Liège. In this way it could take a small revenge on the Rouches. The first half became one like the cup final itself. Very few goal attempts and especially teasing at the opponent’s mistakes. We could not score any goals in the first half. In the second half Genk pushed the accelerator, resulting in a kick in the fiftieth minute. Trossard managed to convert it quietly: 1-0. Afterwards some excellent chances followed the 2-0 but Genk failed to finish it. Almost it got the well-known lid on the nose. Standard managed to score via Emond and so everyone was prepared to kick off again. In the meantime, the arbitrator joined the VAR. The goal was rejected because of offside, rightly, and so as it should be.
After Genk had the video defeat against them last week, this time has luck on their side. Genk did see their stronghold Alejandro Pozuelo as well as Clinton Mata. They will not be there against Charleroi. On the other hand, other injured parties gradually come back and also get to level. Clément counts on the same attitude as against Standard. “Then it should be fine.”
PREDICTION: Under 2.5 goals @ 1.64
