On November 16, from 19:45 pm, Austria and Macedonia meet in a match of the 9th group stage, in the Euro 2020 preliminaries. The hosts have a small share of the victory, but it is normal to be favored, because the difference of value and motivation are on the part of the white-reds.
Austria is in second place in group G, with 16 points, having three “lengths” behind Poland. With goalscoring 17-7, Austria has the best attack in the group and can hardly give up the fight against Macedonia. Macedonia is in 3rd place (golaveraj 10-11), with 11 points, so it needs an almost impossible scenario: two victories in the last two stages, but two failures for Austria!
Slovenia and Israel also have 11 points, but the structure of the program does not give them high hopes for the final tournament. Austrai comes after four victories in the last five stages of the preliminaries: 4-1 with Macedonia (away), 6-0 with Latvia, 3-1 with Israel and 1-0 in Slovenia. Between these results there was a draw in Poland, score 0-0, after a very good evolution of the Austrians.
Macedonia comes after a failure with the group leader, 0-2 in Poland, but kept active the campaign through successes with Latvia (2-0) and Slovenia (2-1). In the only direct match between Macedonia and Austria, the Westerners won 4-1 at Skopje, thanks to goals scored by Lazaro, Arnatuovic (2) and Bejtulai (self-goal). Macedonia led 1-0 after Hinteregger’s own goal, but the break was 1-1. With three “doubles” active in the preliminaries, Arnautovic will again be the most dangerous player on the field.
