On Thursday, starting with 19:45, the first round match will be played between Duren and Bayern, in the German Cup. Obviously, it will be a confrontation for the first time between the 6th place in the German 5th league, Duren, respectively the German and European champion, Bayern. Throughout history, the Bavarians were eliminated only twice in the first round of the competition, in 1991 and 1995.
Duren had something to look forward to meeting with Bayern, as the September dispute was postponed until Thursday due to the Bavarians’ busy schedule. The team prepared by Giuseppe Brunetto occupies the 6th place in the Mittelrhein Oberliga, the 5th German league on the hierarchical scale and obtained a place in the first round of the German Cup after the victory with Alemannia Achen, from the Middle Rhine Cup. Founded in November 2017, Duren participates for the first time in the German Cup, and the meeting takes place on the Allianz Arena in Munich, with the gates closed.
Bayern are the defending champions of the German Cup, after last season’s victory after a final with Leverkusen. The Bavarians have won the Cup 20 times, a record in Germany, and in the match with Duren they will use a lot of reserves and young people. Most of the holders are invited, being involved in matches of the national teams during this period. Alexander Nubel’s debut at Bayern’s goal is expected, and youngsters like Sarr, Richards, Roca and Musiala can be in the top 11 chosen by Hansi Flick.
