On Thursday, starting with 19:15, the Wolfsburg – Desna match will be played, within the 3rd preliminary round of the Europa League. The two teams have never met in European competitions, thus being a duel for the first time. The winner of the dispute will meet the one between St. Gallen and AEK Athens, in the Europa League play-off.
Wolfsburg had no problems qualifying in the 3rd preliminary round of the Europa League, after defeating the Albanian team Kukesi, score 4-0 away. The “Wolves” have played only one round in the Bundesliga so far, ticking a white draw at home with Leverkusen. Oliver Glasner’s students reached the eighth Europa League last season, being eliminated by Sahtior Donetk. In the group of which he was part, Wolfsburg obtained 11 points from the disputes with Gent, St. Etienne and Oleksandriya, the last one a team from Ukraine.
Desna is a debutant in the European cups, after finishing on the 4th place in the first Ukrainian league. The team founded in 1960 participates for only the third season in the first football echelon in Ukraine, after ranking at the debut on the 8th place. Desna, trained since 2012 by Oleksandr Ryabokon, has only Ukrainian footballers in the group, except for the Estonian international Joonas Tamm. After 3 stages in the domestic championship, Desna obtained 5 points, highlighting a 0-0 with Dinamo Kiev, Mircea Lucescu’s team.
