On Sunday, starting with 16:00, the Sputnik – Gomel match will be played, within the 5th round of the Belarus Pershaya League, 2020 edition. Confrontation for the first time, between two teams with different histories. Sputnik was founded in 2017 and received an invitation to participate in the Pershaya League in 2019. Thus, the hosts are for the second consecutive season in the second league in Belarus, while Gomel is the former Premier League champion (2003).

In 2020, Sputnik started the season excellently and is on the second place in the ranking, with 10 points, just like the leader Lokomotiv Gomel. The host team won with Oshmyany, score 1-0, Mikashevichi, score 2-0 and Chimik Svetlogorsk, score 1-0. The only draw, a 1-1 in the first round with Smorgon, at home.
Gomel was relegated from the Premier League last season and was one of the candidates for promotion. However, the guests started modestly in Pershaya Liga and are on the 12th place, with -3 points (it had a penalty of -5 points from the federation). Gomel played only 3 stages, managing draws with Naftan, score 0-0 and with Krumkachy, score 1-1. He also lost the local derby with Lokomotiv Gomel, score 2-3 in the second round.
