Dortmund vs Schalke PREVIEW & PREDICTION 16/05/2020

On Saturday, starting with 14:30, the Dortmund – Schalke match will be played, within the 26th round of the Bundesliga, 2019/2020 edition. Schalke leads the hostilities in the “Revierderby”, obtaining 60 victories, Dortmund 52, and 43 ended in a draw. In the tour, the two teams recorded a white draw at Gelsenkirchen, in a match in which the hosts had more dangerous situations.

Dortmund is back in action with a “Revierderby” in which it has not been successful lately. The “yellow-blacks” have won just one match in the last eight, a 2-1 draw in Gelsenkirchen in December 2018. On Signal Iduna Park, Schalke ticked two fantastic results in recent years, a 4-2 victory in April 2019 and a 4-4 in November 2017, after Dortmund led 4-0 in the first half. Lucien Favre’s students have 51 points this season after 25 stages, 4 points away from the Bayern leader. In 2020, Dortmund won 7 of the first 8 stages of the return, the last time it managed this performance, it triumphed in the Bundesliga (2011/2012).

Schalke proved to be a very uncomfortable opponent for Dortmund, regardless of his situation. This season, the “blues” got very good results, even if in return they took their foot off the accelerator. Schalke’s last success in the Bundesliga dates back to January 17, a 2-0 win over Monchengladbach. Since then, David Wagner’s students have ticked 3 defeats and 4 draws. Thus, Schalke is placed on the sixth place in the Bundesliga, with 37 points, 10 away from the 5th place occupied by Leverkusen, but if it maintains its position, it qualifies in the Europa League preliminaries.

The “blues” have been defeated by rivals in a single “Revierderby” in the last 8 and may produce a new surprise. Moreover, the dispute will take place without spectators, and Dortmund is fed by the fans from Signal Iduna Park. Looking at the statistics related to corners, Schalke had less than 3 corners in just two trips of the season, and the hosts cause enough corner kicks when under pressure.
