The PhD student almost dragged a dot out of the fire against Leuven, but was mercilessly finished in the final minutes of the match. Not a bad result in itself, but more will be needed to pick something up against Union, which is now in first place because of the goal balance.
Virton:
Virton definitely did not disappoint on the first day of play. On the contrary, it almost took one point (or even more) with it from the King Power at den Dreef stadium. It brought some good chances together, but unfortunately had to acknowledge its superiority in the final phase by OHL. However, it could have remained perfectly 0-0, but there was nothing to do against the class flash of one of the top scorers last season, Thomas Henry. The task now is to keep one’s head high, not to lower morals and to play another match against strong Union.
Dino Topmöller, the current coach of Virton, felt that his team deserved more. ‘We actually deserved a point, but in football it often doesn’t go the way it should be. Every mistake is paid dearly at the professional level and my players learned that right away. Defensively it was already well put together. It is a shame that we still had to lose in this way. “Although the defensive might have been well put together, the defense against Union will have to play a perfect match so as not to get a counter goal. Players like Faiz Selemanie cannot simply be stopped.
Union Saint-Gilloise:
Union immediately applied again on the first day of play. 3-0, a victory to be proud of. How good Union was, how weak Roeselare was and that must be said. Winning at home against a team without a trainer, without a solid core and without organization is not such an achievement in itself. Still it managed to get some nice chances together, which regularly resulted in a goal. The first was made by top player Selemanie, after dribbling the keeper. The second was a solo action by Serge Tabekou, possibly the new star for Union. The third (penalty) hit was again made by Selemanie. A resounding victory without too many difficulties.
The great man at Union at the moment, Selemanie, is not yet sure whether he will stay with Union. With two goals and an assist, he immediately showed again how important he is for this Union. The question is whether they can keep him for a long time if he keeps playing like this. He himself says that there is interest from other clubs, but that he is still 100% committed to Union; and whether he does that! If he had to leave, then it is already the third topper to pull the door behind him at Union: Percy Tau and Youssouffou Niakaté were already ahead of him. How long can Union hold on to its last cart driver?
PREDICTION: St. Gilloise to win @ 1,93
