Well on my side of view this should be 50/50 match with odds set in same way . Imo David Ferrer played quite well on this tournament and he had quite hard job to pass this rounds . Had Kamke who is new in this level of tour and have very agressive game and even that was first game for Ferrer he make out of it as a winner and then he just improved his game from one game to another and in the end he smashed Giraldo who was in so good form . Ferrer in the end of last year if we dont watch at his bad performance at London was amazing and his hard court game much improved .

On the other side Nalbandian played well too . Having some trouble with poor Fognini , wining Petzchner who is in bad form and cant hit anything and wining Almagro as i heard with one of worst performance of spainiard here and now he meet kind of player who he wouldnt like to take on , guy who can run and make every point harder for him and guy who improved his shots and this will be one hard 50/50 match in which will one point make a difference so i will say this odds are not good set and i will gladly take Ferrer here.

After embarassement in Brisbane against Giraldo, Simon still didn’t lost a set here in Sydney beating Lu, Gil and Dolgopolov in straight sets before playing against Gulbis yesterday. Gulbis is a similar type of player to Troicki, quite solid from the baseline, decent hitter and moves well around the court but is mentally fragile and oftenly has blackouts during a match. Yesterday he served for 6-4 in the first set, then choked and got broken to love. In the second he fell apart and won only 3(!!) points in the whole second set. The same thing can repeat today cause Troicki, although in great form of late and also without a lost set on this tournament, is a good matchup for his grinding, defensive style.

After all, Simon is 4-0 in h2h against the Serb winning first two matches on clay and the other two on hardcourts(indoors in Bangkok, outdoors in Shanghai) without losing a set.

Quality is on Simon’s side, and although i reckon it’s going to be a hell of a struggle, his mental awareness will help him to prevail in this match.

Taking this with medium stake though, as there’s not much of a value here. GL.

The last quarter-final of the day in Sydney.Florian ‘Flo’ Mayer is facing Potito Starace from Italy. It`s going to be their fourth mutual match and so far Starace has the edge, leading 2:1 but the matches were played years ago(the last one four years ago) so they aren`t important for ‘predicting the outcome’. If we see the matches which both have played so far in Sydney,we will see that Flo has big edge for this match. He just beat and literally outplayed both of them.

In the first round he won in straight sets against James Ward with 7:5 6:0 and in the second round he beat Del Potro with easy 6:2 7:5.He hasn`t given any chance for break to the Argentinian and was serving very powerful and precisely. On the other side Starace beat Benneteau and Kubot in tough three sets.IMO Starace has goals to be better on fast surfaces, for this match exactly hard surface but in my opinion he even didn`t deserve to be in this quarter-final as he had big luck yesterday against Kubot who was struggling in the most important points.

He had two set-points in the 1st set at 5-4 with own serve but he ruined with two double faults in a row.In the second set he was very powerful and won with 6:2 but in the 3rd set he just was silly.Kubot has lost only four points in that set but was broken to nil and lost the match. Also Starace has played two hours more than Flo.Starace didn`t impress me with anything in this tournament just ‘Lady Fortuna’ is with him :=).Flo has very versatile game for every surface. His favorite shot and mostly deadly for all his opponents is his forehand.

Also worth to mention and his two-handed backhand and two-handed slice which is curently using a lot on this tournament. As he is better player on hard surface and overall better player I give him big edge in this match and I`m seeing him in the semi-final without any doubt.

Also he is very motivated in this tournament as he is curently just four places from his biggest ranking in ATP, the 33rd place in 2004.For me easy win in straight sets.Good luck

In the quarterfinals of the ATP Sydney (Australia, hard) the young ukrainian Aleksandr Dolgopolov, ranked 49th in the world will meet frenchman Gilles Simon, ranked 41st in the world for the first time in his career. Simon is allready known in the ATP circuit, he proved that when he is at his best he can beat even the best, ussualy when his serve is working it`s all good.

He started the year on the wrong foot, losing in his 1st match of the year (1st round Brisbane, Australia, hard) to the modest player Santiago Giraldo, in straight sets 2-6, 3-6. Here he had no real probrlem of reaching the quarters beating Lu and Gil in straight sets. Dolgopolov, a player with an interesting playing style, a sperial server, a hard server not so ever, with potential. He is coming after breaking the number 1 seed here, american Sam Querrey which he beat in straight sets, 4-6, 3-6.

I will take the opportunity that the two haven`t met so far, thinking that the ukrainian will surprise Simon with his ussual playing style and take it to semifinals.

I think we have wrong odds for this game.

Columbian Farah looks interesting player, and he had nice results in last year, but most his nice results was on clay surface, but this results were not so big really.. He struggled on hard surface, and played tournaments from first qualifying rounds, and showed nothing interesting too.. He started this year in Brisbane, where he was totally outplayed against Matthias Bachinger 6-2 6-0… Than was loss against Donald Young 7-6(5) 6-4 in Sydney… and finally he managed to win against japaneze Go Soeda 7-6 6-4 , who isn’t anything special too..

Stadler had not lucky year on 2010, but he is very experienced player, and mostly he is playing on hard surfaces, and he really like fast surfaces than clay.. He played last year on Australian Open and after two nice wins over Oleksandr Dolgopolov 6-2 3-6 8-6, Roko Karanusic 6-2 6-0, he lost against Kevin Anderson 6-2 6-4, who is 2 level better player than Farah…

I rate Stadler better player, and I think odds are wrong settled considering of players ranking only.

Young Latvian Ernests Gulbis has began the season by easily winning in the first 2 round in Doha, eventually losing to the world number 1 Rafael Nadal so he has got nothing to be sad about right now. His last season gave him more security for playing on clay, while he was more than good on hard. Many people say about him that he is a very aggressive player who plays with a lot of feeling for drop shots and lobs, but many also think his disadvantage is a lot of UEs, but that is perfectly normal as he is always attacking and forces forehand the most. Sydney’s hard surface will certainly suit him very well.

If we just take a look at the number of challengers played by Igor Andreev last year, it can be concluded his form isn’t at a very good level right now. The last tourney of 2010 was played back in October and since then he’s rested until the beginning of this year. He isn’t defending any Sydney points as he lost in the first round last year but this season he passed the qualies and the first round not dropping a single set. However, he’s far from some great form. He always used to have a strong forehand and solid baseline play but the fact he’s at the 79th spot now and having the same amount of wins and losses last season, not to mention his horrible record on hard, all prove that he should deservedly be set as big underdog here.

I think the key here will Gulbis’ focus on making as few UEs as possible, and let’s add that both players love to play attacking tennis, so whoever manages to tame the opponent’s aggressiveness he’ll win it, and big chances I’d give to the Latvian as the Russian definitely isn’t in top shape. Andreev is leading 2-0 H2H but both losses were back in 2009 when his play was a lot different than today, and now he looks tired on the court whenever he has to play some more serious and competitive match, so a sure option should be Gulbis’ win. Good luck!

Xavier Malisse used to be a huge Belgian prospect back in the day but the injuries have really prevented him from doing something big on the tour and the years went by but the Belgian could never get his old form back. He won 3 tournies in total in his career, and one of the titles was actually won in Chennai 4 years ago so he does like this tournie a lot and looks quite fit entering this new season, recording 3 easy wins without dropping a single set against opponents like Ilhan, Robert and Phau. On paper, all those rivals look rather poor but it can be mentioned that Phau managed to defeat Gasquet a round before, in quite a shady turnaround as the Frenchie was up 5-2 in the second set leading 1-0 already, and then suddenly melted, committing easy UEs and Phau taking it eventually. Anyway, Malisse seems to have found the motivation once again and we’re yet to see what good can come out of that.

Great form

As expected, Janko Tipsarevic won against Nishikori in straight sets even though it wasn’t as easy as it seems since Nishikori is a very talented player, but Janko’s experience and patience eventually prevailed and he tired the Japanese player down and broke him once Kei lost the focus in both of the sets. He played mostly from baseline as he was feeling the most comfortable that way and I expect nothing different against Malisse too. As a reminder, Janko has gone through very difficult preps in Africa last month and is very motivated before the new season with the main goal of winning his first major ATP singles title. He already tied the result from Chennai from the last season and now he’s got a nice opportunity to do even better, and earn a chance to fight for that long-awaited title.

Tipsa for the title

Their only meeting so far ended in Tipsa’s straight-set victory in 2009 and now I expect nothing different to happen. Janko has got more quality, is the calmer player of the two and I expect him to be more successful than Malisse in most of the rallies, and even though Xavier has been playing above the expectations at the start of 2011, I just can’t see him defeating a serious player like Tipsarevic at the moment, and I expect Janko to win this one with a patient display and pass yet another obstacle on his way to the Chennai title. Be quick as I expect the odds on him to drop even more. Good luck.

Novak Djokovic was very nervous in his first match in these Davis Cup finals against Simon despite the fact he was clearly a lot better and stronger opponent in that clash. He dominated the match with ease, played a lot of good and tactical rallies, attempted a bunch of unsuccessful drop shots per usual but also had some really amazing winners and great serves, and exploited all Simon`s weaknesses in the best way possible. Still, he wasn`t able to finish the match off when he was serving for it for the first time, but eventually regrouped and did it in 3 and is now aware he will have to give his best to win one more point and most likely leave it all on Janko Tipsarevic, who is the potential hero in the making for his country as he will be the one that will attempt to bring home the championship point.

Fighter

I`ve spoken to a few French fans after the Monfils` game on Friday and they said they were pretty surprised with how bad Tipsarevic played as they believe Monfils is in quite bad form as well, and they don`t give him too many chances against Djokovic. Monfils, however, didn`t play that bad at all, hitting some amazing passing shots against Tipsarevic but was also quite vulnerable and if Janko was more focused in that clash, the match could`ve gone into 5 or at least 4 sets and then who knows what could`ve happened. Anyhow, Monfils was serving at a high level, he played great at times only and was able to reach any ball so overall I`d say he played decent but it`s doubtful that will be enough to match a player like Djokovic.

Nole to start climbing

Just like the French fans I`ve talked to, I also believe Monfils doesn`t have much to hope for here against Djokovic, who is a lot better player and I think he will play much less nervous and much more determined today as he knows he has got to win this match and I don`t think he will feel as much pressure as he did in his first match on Friday. Monfils, on the other hand, should play relaxed, but I doubt he will manage to endanger Djokovic, and I remember many of their mutual clashes (6-0 in Djokovic`s favor H2H), and Nole always dominated those matches managing to break Monfils down sooner or later, and I don`t think it`s gonna be any different in front of 15k home fans. I rarely bet on game handicaps but this time around I think even if there will be 4 sets, I think Djokovic should beat this spread as he will probably win at least one of the sets quite comfortably by a couple of breaks and that should do it for this bet and climb the first mountain on Serbian way to the title. Good luck.

Despite quite an easy defeat in the semis of the Masters finals in London last week, Novak Djokovic hasn’t lost his confidence. He played well at that tourney up to the match against Federer, when he really couldn’t do anything, but really it could be said that he was already thinking about the Davis Cup finals back then and many of his statements over the past few weeks indicated that this is one of the most important matches of his career. Certainly, it is a chance that doesn’t come around very often for many tennis players in their careers, so Djokovic now has the opportunity to take and lead his team and the country to title of the best country in the world, and I think he is quite ready to accomplish that goal.

Wants to make a comeback

Gilles Simon currently doesn’t have that game he had a few years ago when he was a top 10 player and when he was able to beat anybody, but it’s obvious that he is making a comeback after one really poor period of his career. It seems like his form and the condition have improved, and at times he managed to show some pretty good performances with solid effort, and that has always been his main characteristic- persistency, which helped him win some matches that he normally never would. Simon is a player that primarily forces baseline play, his serve varies, but anyhow, it isn’t too strong and rather more tactical and he can often also enter a big series of UEs and basically beat himself. He played decent indoors during this 2nd part of the season, even having the Valencia semis where he lost to Soderling but then he suffered a big blow at “home” playing the 2nd round of Paris Masters, when he got demolished in 2 sets with the Swede only allowing him to win 4 games in total. It’s questionable what kind of resistance will he manage to put up today despite the fact he’s always played his best when he defended his country’s honor, and this season he had 2 wins in 2 matches in Davis Cup.

Novak to win furiously

According to some of my expectations, this final will be decided on Saturday when the doubles will collide. I expect Djokovic to win both of his singles, especially this first one against Simon, who shouldn’t represent much of a threat for him and I believe he could handle that easily and repeat the result from their last mutual meeting played in Beijing about month and a half ago, when Simon lost in 2 easy sets. This time, Djokovic will have to keep his focus for a bit longer as this is a best-out-of-5 situation, but helped by the home crowd, I expect he can break the French down, dominate the match and bring the tying point for Serbia most likely, in case Tipsarevic previously loses to Monfils. The odds are great, and the chances Djokovic loses a set here are below 40%. Good luck.

Rafael Nadal is really great at this Masters and beside the first-set crisis he had in the match against Roddick, when I unfortunately had him to win in straight sets, he won the rest of the matches in a magnificent way. The other 2 sets against Roddick were played out in a terrific fashion, especially once Roddick was both set and a break up in the 2nd. Nadal then quickly found the usual mode for crushing his opponents. He also struggled in the first sets against Djokovic and Berdych. Djokovic had a problem with his contact lenses towards the end of first and since then only Nadal existed on the court, while he also had problems against Berdych in the first, as the Czech played less nervous than in his previous matches and also focused, primarily on his serve, but then later crushed him just like all of his previous rivals until now, so he’ll be having a very nice opportunity to strengthen his number one spot with a great result at the last tournament of the season, especially when we know he got eliminated a bit earlier last season.

Justified the expectations

I think that given a pretty variable form that Andy Murray had before this Masters finals began, all of his fans can now be quite satisfied with the result achieved in front of his home crowd. The 5th player in the world recorded two quite easy wins in 2 sets each over Soderling and Ferrer, who he beat particularly easy, while he was powerless against Federer, still showing a lot of weaknesses in his game, and also the lack of his defensive perfection that has been decorating his play until recently. He obviously isn’t playing the best he can, but is still among the best players in the world without a doubt. It can also be stated he already recorded a better result at this Masters than he did last year.

Nadal cleaning his path to the title

Their H2H is 8-5 for Nadal, and currently Rafa is playing maybe near his best, while it can’t be said Murray is really near his greatest performances at the moment. Certainly the Brit will give his all to win in front of his fans, but I think he’ll be inferior during almost all key points against Nadal, who never gives up. Even the U.K. books have been dropping the odds on Nadal all day long unusually for them not showing much belief in their countryman, and I wonder why should we do it then? Good luck!
