Match preview: Roma – Catania

Roma ended 2010 with a great victory against Milan in San Siro. Ranieri`s team was most successful team of Serie A on last month before the break. They collected more points than any other team in Serie A.

Roma is following leader Milan from 7 points behind.

This week might be an advantage for Roma while Inter is facing up with Napoli and shorthanded Milan visiting Sardinia.

Roma don`t have any serious missings except Pizarro,his replacement Simplicio already showed great performance.

One of the worst away teams

Catania finished first part of Serie A with disappointments. Too many people were expecting much better performances from Sicilians but they had disaster results. Argentinian striker Maxi Lopez was out of expectations.

Catania will miss some important regulars before Roma clash.

Terlizzi,Augustyn,Maritomo,Potenza and Izco all are out due of injuries. Catania will try to stop Roma with parking a bus in front of the net and will search counter attacks with Lopez.

Easy 3 points

Roma is the best home team of Serie A. They made a bad start to Serie A but Ranieri`s team started to play better and collect points and now placed 5th. Purpose is to win Serie A for Roma`s side.

Catania will fight for relegation if they keep going with this bad form.

Roma should start to 2011 with 3 points and should get it easily against the Sicilians.

Match preview: Cagliari – Milan

After losing Allegri , Cagliari couldn`t find right coach for themselfs and decided to start with Donadoni. (ex-Milan player)

Cagliari have really good players,even big teams trying to link with them as Acquafresca,Matri,Lazzari.

Cagliari playing more offencively when they are at home. Last two home games Cagliari managed to score total 6 goals and conceeded 2.

I am sure Cagliari will be confident because of Milan`s missings and will try to give a shock to Rossoneri.

2011 must be better

Everybody were talking that Milan will make a big point difference to followers on first part of the league but Rossoneri dropped unexpected points. (Especially on San Siro against Roma, last game of the 2010)

Now Milan will have really difficult test. Without Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He has scored 9 goals for Milan and playing just great. Zlatan is suspended. Not only this, Milan have important injury worries. Defenders Nesta,Zambrotta,midfielders Boateng (who were showing great performance), Pirlo,Flamini.

Milan added one more star to their offence. Now Rossoneri have one of the best offence lines of the World with Cassano,Zlatan,Robinho and Pato.

Good news Pato is back and will start in first 11 with Robinho. Cassano didn`t play long time and will sit on the bench.Its really such a big game for Rossoneri to keep leading Serie A, Allegri`s team has to prove even with injuries if they are biggest favourite of Serie A.

Big game

Even with missings on the paper Milan still have a great team. Nobody knows weak sides of Cagliari more than Allegri. He has been coaching Cagliari for 2 years and he were really successful.

Milan should do everything for 3 points. After 9 points lead and tie it with Lazio or Napoli can break Milan`s confidence. Milan is still biggest favourite of the Serie A.

Donadoni`s men will try to use their offencive power over Milan. Milan will miss two important defenders Nesta and Zambrotta. Without Nesta , Bonera will replace and everybody knows he is Serie B level player. Also Milan midfield will lose solidness defencively,hardworker midfielders Flamini and Boateng are out and in front of the defence who is managing the game ; Pirlo.

Milan still have enough firepower to score goals even without Zlatan.I am sure many teams on the World dreaming to have Robinho – Pato duo.

I am expecting pretty open game and I think goals will decide thats whos the winner. Last season Milan defeated Cagliari 2 times 2-3 in Sardinia and 4-3 in San Siro.

I am expecting another high scoring game here.

Match preview: Genoa – Lazio

I was expecting to Genoa fight for top 4 but they are far from this purpose. Placed 11th on the table and playing totally different football than last year`s. Genoa was better team when they played with 3-4-3 , 4-4-2 formation isn`t suited for them. They become better defencively but offencively a bad team.

Genoa will miss Sculli. Also Genoa`s best defender Ranocchia joined to Inter. I am wondering without him can Genoa keep their good defencive performance?

Reja`s magic

Last season Lazio was a disaster and hardly saved themselfs from relegation zone. Now? They are 3rd and following leader 3 points behind. Reja`s team doing great job. Lazio is more confident now, players knows their winning abilities. Hernanes was great addition.

So far everything is going perfect for Lazio.

Important defender Radu is back to the team.

To lead

Lazio is going to Genoa to take all 3 points.

Genoa already having scoring problems with this formation. Toni and Rudolf two forwards are not enough. Also without Rodrigo Palacio Genoa always needed struggle on offence.

I can`t see also Genoa`s midfield to hold Lazio`s. Mauri – Hernanes and Zarate. Behind them two hardworker midfielders Brocchi and Ledesma. Lazio easily should control the game. Zarate and Floccari linked great. Mauri and Hernanes showing great performances. These reasons are key factors of Reja`s success but his selections were always correct. Lazio surely more motivated side here and should get 3 points from Genoa.

Match preview: Udinese – Chievo

Last season Udinese were fighting in relegation zone and after Francesco Guidolin’s take control , Udinese become a great team again. Udinese managed to win 5 of last 6 Serie A games at home. They did pretty impressive job. in those 5 teams Udinese defeated Napoli,Fiorentina,Palermo. Which means big guns of Serie A. Friuli become a nightmare for every big team.

Di Natale having a great season and hes top goal scorer of Italian Serie A now with 10 goals. Udinese`s key success that their offencive players , all of them in great forms. Chilean Sanchez already took attention of big clubs and Inter ready to make a bid for him. Also Armero and Denis are great players and with their exist Udinese offence getting much more stronger.

Worst thing for Bianconeri that they have worst 3rd defence of Serie A.

Forgot to win?

After sensational win against Inter , Chievo couldn`t manage to win any other game and they showed bad performances on away games against poor teams (Bologna,Lecce) But they aren`t in that bad situation. Placing 10th on table and following 9th Udinese. Against Juventus , Chievo deserved to win but Juventus played 40 minutes defending with 10 men and Pelissier equalised to score on last minute of the game. Chievo will miss Mantovani and Luciano. Both important.

Udinese will continue to win

I would have concerns about Chievo`s deadly dangerous counter attacks but when teams come to play against Udinese, they are forgetting attack while trying to stop Udinese attacks. Yes, Udinese have one of the worst defences but they can cover it with scoring even if they concedes a goal. Udinese will put too much pressure on Chievo as they did against all teams which they played in Friuli and will break the locks of Chievo with their offencive firepower.

Match preview: Juventus – Parma

The Old Lady had a chance to catch Milan,but against Chievo they had to delay their hopes with a last minute goal. But fact is Juventus are unbeaten 13 games on Serie A and it shows Del Neri`s team on the good way.

But mostly Juventus got better results when they played away from home. Their performances in Turin is not impressive.

Bonucci and Giandonato are suspended. Especially Bonucci is big blow for Juve`s defence. Also striker Iaquinta is out due of injury. He were doing pretty good job with his parner Quagliarella with opening more spaces for him in opponents defences. Del Piero and Amauri are fit and probably Del Piero is going to be partner of Quagliarella. Same situation as Roma. While Napoli and Milan having difficult games Juventus will play for only one purpose, purpose is clear ; 3 points.

Still in danger

Parma made terrible start to Serie A till Marino changes tactic from defencive to offencive. With 4-3-3 Parma started to get better results but their away performances are isn`t proving that they are a solid team yet. Parma will miss Marques and Angelo. Parma is still close to relegation zone, they just up by 4 points. I am expecting some high motivation by former Juventus players Candreva and Giovinco against their old teams.

Parma will not skip

Parma managed to score on their 5 of last 6 games on the road. Well if we think Juventus defence will suffer without Bonucci , we can expect Parma to score here. Also as I mentioned Candreva and Giovinco will be eager to give headache to their old teams. Crespo is like a wine, he is showing great performance. He reborned on his old team.

Last year in Turin , Parma defeated Juventus 2-3. Between two teams usually games finished with highscores. I seldom bet according to H2H but Bonucci`s missing,Parma`s offencive firepower and Juventus`s bad performance in Turin makes this bet much more logical. Both teams to score.

Match preview: Bolton – Wigan

With 3 defeats from the last 4 played, and only 1 win, there is reason to worry about the form of Bolton, but not enough to feel that they have collapsed in anyway. Chelsea, Sunderland, Liverpool, were all `aways` and none of them were defeats due to the gap in class. Single goal margins show that the Trotters are still holding steady, but the failure to score vs Sunderland and Chelsea needs to be addressed.

Facing lowly Wigan back on home turf should provide them with a golden opportunity to pick up 3pts and keep the team spirits high. That`s one thing that I feel Owen Coyle has done well in building: team spirit, and he will see the rewards from that over the whole season.

Home form : 5-4-1, and that tells you everything you need to know for this bet.

Wobbling again

Their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle ended an unbeaten run of 4 games for Wigan, and it was a pretty damp squid of a display in front of the home fans that saw them end it.

They have struggled all season with gaining consistency, and yet when they do finally manage to get some going they fall at what was a weakish hurdle in the form of Newcastle `away`.

On their travels they have been woeful and there was little to suggest that they can produce a different performance tonight after a matter of a few days.

A regular goalscorer would make a big difference as I think there are elements to WIgan`s game that should see them survive on merit, but until then they will stay major relegation candidates.

Home Win Again

Bolton are solid at home, with only that single, and very undeserving, loss to Liverpool blotting the books.

The last meeting ended 1-1, and that would be my choice again if this was an away game for the Trotters, however with Home dominance quite clear I see no evidence to support anything other than the continuation of that, and another 3 pt game.

Match preview: Blackpool – Birmingham

Blackpool yet again fool so many with an excellent display in defeat at Champion contenders Man City last time out.
After a superb run of results, including their amazing `away` form (ranked 3rd overall), Blackpool nearly took a well deserved point from the misfiring Tevez and Co, and I think there will be a lot of positives that manager Holloway will take from that performance.

Home form is harder to assess as they have only played 6 times due to weather conditions, but 2-2-2 isn`t that bad. They have scored in every game, averaging 1.83, but also conceded at the same rate.

Birmingham struggle to score and so the hosts have a massive advantage going into this one. Open and attacking play typifies this Blackpool squad, and confidence is something they have in abundance.

DJ Campbell is finding his groove, with 3 in the last 3 games, whole midfield man Charlie Adam is continuing to provide creativity in delivery as well as a powerful shot on goal as well.

The Tangerines look sweet to me.

Dismal and dire

As someone who has had a sizeable bet on Birmingham to score 45points or more this season I will be praying that money is spent wisely in January to try and secure a striker that can actually STRIKE!!

McLeish likes his `hard to beat` tag, and would be delighted with a season of 0-0 draws and Premiership survival. He knows the limitations he has to work with, but a lot of those are down to his choice of player.
He loaned Garry O`Connor out to Barnsley when he was lacking in a decent target man, as Zigic simply hasn`t worked out how to play in the EPL. O`Connor is doing well now, and they could do with him back in the squad.

Kevin Philips as an impact sub has some logic, but he`s too old and off the pace to be fully effective. McFadden is injured , and Jerome is like a ghost sometimes.

Won only 3 from 19 played, and average under a goal a game. There`s not much else to say, really.

All in all Birmingham are 2 or 3 players short of a proper squad and with a Blackpool team who look pretty much complete I can`t see how they will be able to plan for anything other than another shutout and a 0-0 draw.

Goals win games, and Blackpool score them while Birmingham don`t.

Holloway Holiday

With a pitch that may not be in tip top condition, but good enough to use, there is always the chance of a funny result, but unless Blackpool go out and play their worst game of the season I don`t think they can lose this one.

Campbell, Varney, Adam…there are enough in form to threaten Joe Hart all game.
Birmingham don`t have a single `go to guy` at the moment and their easy defeat by Arsenal showed how they struggle against a free flowing side, which Blackpool are fast becoming.

Match preview: Atletico Madrid – Santander

Atletico is not playing as expected before the start of the season.They lost a lots of points against weaker teams, but at the end of the Year they manage to win several fixtures and end the Year on a high.They are currently on 6th place with only 2 points less then 4th placed Valencia.Coach Flores expects better play in second part of the Championship.He said that Cl is top priority.Defense was even better then expected, but attack was not on required level and even best players such Forlan and Aguero were bellow par.They must improve their game if Atletico want to mount serious challenge for CL.The squad is healthy and ready.Reyes is the only absentee.

Fighters

Santander was one of the main candidates for relegation battle before the start of the Championship.They had a very difficult schedule and they were on the bottom of the table.But they played very well against relegation rivals and took many important points.Now, they are 5 points above relegation spots.Their game is not the pretty one, but they now how to play for the result.The complete squad is playing with high morale and if such resilience can be maintained over an extended period there will be no relegation threat to Racing.On Monday, they will play without injured Tono and Colsa.The newcomer Bedia is out of consideration, too.

Goals

Atletico will attack from the beginning in order to break the rivals as early as possible.Guests will play more defensive and on counter-attacks.Hosts are big favorites and big game is expected from their attackers.Santander will sure have their opportunities,too.Over 3.5 goals is my pick.

Match preview: Al Ahli Bengazi – Khaleej

Al Ahli Bengazi started the season impressively, winning 5 games and drawing on 4 occasions. On 25th December, however, Al Ahli Tripoli won over them by 1:0, putting an end to their unbeaten record. Benghazi side finished on 2nd place last season in a championship where Al Ahli Tripoli were expelled after 13th round because of not turning up in 2 consecutive games. This gave Al Ahli Benghazi the opportunity of easier fight for the title, but Al Ittihad proved to be the better side. This season Benghazi are 2-3-0 at home
and are currently 3rd. The likes of Stephen Worgu and Cheick Oumar Dabo, however, should help the team in the fight against their rivals.

Impressing this season, too

Khaleej finished 3rd last season and have a good opportunity to at least repeat this achievement, as they are 5th at the moment, 3 points behind Al Ahli Benghazi, but having a game in hand. The start of the current season, in matter of fact, was not bright – Khaleej lost to Tirsana, Al Ahli Tripoli and Al Wehda in the first 5 rounds, but a recent run of 4 consecutive wins lifted the team. Tunisian coach Mukhtar Taleely should be very happy with his lads, who won over Al Nasser at home and Al Hilal
away. 1-0-3 for Khaleej away from home so far this season and 8:11 goal difference.

Possible upset

Statistics point Al Ahli Benghazi to win, but I think Khaleej could upset the hosts here. The last two games on this stadium finished with away wins – 0:1 in February 2009 and 0:2 in November 2009. Very few teams are able to beat Al Ahli Benghazi on their stadium and Khaleej proved to be one of them. The away win is not priced as juicy as I expected, but it`s still considerable and should be a reasonable longshot for the last day of 2010.

Match preview: Hapoel Rishon LeZion – Ironi Ramat HaSharon

Hapoel Rishon LeZion are battling for promotion this season, or least that what their performance is saying so far. The team is on 5th position now, so the perspective is good. There are some very interesting players in this team, namely Kola Rodgers, David Gomes, Justin Zulu and Ran Itzchak. Last year the LeZion finished on 9th place and played in the middle playoffs, where they managed to overlap Ahva Arraba and reached the 8th place in the end. The team has a 7-4-4 record this season, 3-2-2 at home.

Unbeaten leaders

Ironi Ramat HaSharon are still unbeaten this season, winning 10 games and drawing on 5 occasions. The team finished 4th in the regular season last year and reached the promotion playoffs, but just couldn`t cope with Ironi Kiryat Shmona, Hapoel Ashkelon and Hapoel Kfar Saba. By the way, Kfar Saba are still in Liga Leumit, after losing the promotion playoff to Hapoel Ramat Gan last year, and are now chasing HaSharon, having just 2 points less. 6-1-0 for HaSharon away from home this season and 14:3 goal difference.

It should be an interesting match

Both teams will try to win this one, but I can`t pick a winner here. LeZion are a good side, with one Brazilian and two African players up front, while the guests are relying on veteran Nissim and Gabonese striker Akieremy. HaSharon have to lose at some point, but they just look so solid, that I don`t think it will be soon. The draw seems like a fair outcome here and I think both teams will appreciate winning a point. In the last twelve games we saw 7 draws between these two teams, so it really looks like a tight affair.
