Match preview: Juventus – Catania

Juvetus is in bad run and form – in league they’ve lost 2 games in a row with big margin: 0-3 with Napoli and 1-4 with Parma and it seems that in club isn’t great. Now it will be a chance for them to improve their morale before the next league meeting against Bari.

Match preview: Inter – Genoa

Overall:
-Barcelona was last season in the position of Inter today, let go of the Copa del Rey as unimportant, and focus on Primera Division and Campions League. Barca lost with Sevilla in the Cup, and we all know how it went with Inter in CL. So even if Milan gets Serie A, and Inter is out of Champions League (I think will be so), than the team can still present some silverware (Italy Cup). Zanetti and others, after losing the first trophy, European Super Cup against Atletico Madrid, should be more focused on this one. Mourinho gave an example of non leaving even the crumbs to his adversaries,
now that Leonardo has boarded Inter ship, I don’t think he will start the sail by avoiding the Cup. The moral is high after the arrival of Leonardo (yesterday Lucio declared how similar he is with Mou, a.k.a. meaning higher motivation), the injuries are almost over and the team seems complete, and there is also a certain frustation to take out of the system for the deludent first half of season.
-The perfect opponent to unburden all of this is coming, Genoa. In the end of October, Inter won away in Luigi Ferraris stadium with a goal of Muntari. Same as Inter story with Benitez, Genoa’s coach of the time, Gasperini, was fired, and substituted by Ballardini. Genoa position in table is far from pleasant, 5 points from the drop, and considering that after the single game with Inter, Coppa Italia continues with two legs for each round (Napoli is next in line), than this is an unnecessary burden to carry for the season.

Formations:
This is a tough time for Inter, too many games (has to replay two postponed games) will push Leonardo to some turnover. The first certainty is the presence of the new player, Ranocchia, debuting thus against his ex-club. The other central defender should be one between Cordova and Lucio. Santon, Muntari and Mariga should also be present. The midfield will be carried on by in-form Cambiasso, and Biabiany and Pandev should form the attack line, with Etoo ready any moment. Out are for sure Chivu, Stankovic and Motta. All in all, a competitive formation.
Coach Ballardini will do without the best goalkeeper of the season in Serie A, Eduardo (only 15 goals received). The third goalie, Perin, has thus renounced the U19 team, and will join Genoa in Milano, as a substitute. Also two players of the base formation, attacker Destro, and defender Kaladza, are definitely out. Genoa has already one of the scarcest attacking line of Serie A (only 13 goals scored), and the alternatives in attack will be between Palacio, Rudolf, and Sculli. I can’t remember now when I saw Palacio for the last time in pitch, November or October, and Sculli is already thinking about Lazio transfert.

Last opinion:
Genoa needed extra-time to overcame two weak teams of Serie B, Vicenza and Grosseto, in the previous games of Coppa Italia. And now has in front a much stronger team than itself, playing at own home pitch, a team with a new coach, that has brought a wave of necessary optimism. I see nothing else than a convincing and dominant Inter game and win, be it 1-0 or 4-1.

Match preview: Blackpool – Liverpool

Both teams were knocked out of the FA cup at the weekend but in very different circumstances.

Liverpool played their first team on Sunday, getting beaten 1-0 in a fierce encounter with Man Utd, playing 3/4 of the game with just 10 mean, but chasing hard for the equaliser throughout

Blackpool took largely the reserves to Southampton on Saturday and were beaten as all expected.

Blackpool are unbeaten in their last four games against Liverpool, winning two of those matches, and are generally playing well when they choose to, saving themselves for games they can win (like this one).

Conversely, Liverpool have lost three of their last four league matches and have lost their last four away matches – an awful run of form.

Gerrard will be suspended following his sending off, and Torres still looks out of sorts, with the rest of the Liverpool team no better man-to-man than Blackpool’s.

Match preview: Canet – Frejus St-Raphael

>Canet are outside the CFA 2, this means they are below 5th division. They are not recognized being above that level in the recent years, so we have one completely amateur team today. This would be their match of the season, so they will throw everything in order to upset Frejus. Yesterday we saw some amateur demolishitions, thanks to Nantes, Dijon, Strasbourg and Troyes, who demolished their oppositions by enormous scores.

Taking this game seriously

Frejus are currently 8th in National (3rd division) and are close to the top spots. But coach Bandini won`t take anything for granted today and will want a committed performance by his lads. He had included all the best players in the group, including Varreiles, Henaini and Di Tommaso, so the starting eleven for Frejus today won`t be very different from the usual one.

Frejus to win comfortably

Frejus are playing third-division football and are doing good, while Canet are somewhere down the ladder. As the guests arrived with their best attackers, I have no other logic, that thinking of some goals in Canet`s net. However, sometimes it`s difficult for a huger-hierarchy teams to motivate, so maybe the home team could be able to score a goal. Anyway, I think the over is the most probable outcome. However, I have my doubts over the pitch` state, that`s why I don`t want to risk more than 3 units. If Frejus were the home made there won`t be any doubt, that it`s going to be a over, but sometimes on very bad pitch, the weakest teams are able to adjust very fast and go to extra time.

These two teams meet two times before, USA emerging victorious every time. Now, the date of the problem are changed, since USA will play with a very inexperienced squad, with a questionable quality. I believe South Africa has what it takes to win this and I will take them at some (still) great odds. Also, a secondary bet which is worth to be tried is the HT-FT option, since i believe the hosts will take the game into their hands early in the game and the lack of cohesion from the American squad should be punished sooner rather than later. Low stakes, since it`s a friendly game after all.

Match preview: Manchester City – Liverpool

The Citizens have bumped into Tottenham at the very beginning, who managed to beat them last year in the most important and key game for CL qualifiers, and they wanted to revenge for that loss, but that was one tough game where eventually there was no winner as it ended in a goalless draw. City is an excellent team, having an offensive lineup with players like David Silva, Tevez and Adebayor, and many would be envious for having all those players in the squad so I think that Mancini’s three will break Liverpool’s defense in this match and not only once but multiple times.

Slipped up at the opener

Liverpool hosted Arsenal at the start of the championship and didn’t do too well as the newbie in the Reds’ side Joe Cole got a red card, but the guys from Anfield still managed to take the lead just to concede a goal in the 89th minute due to their goalie’s mistake. Unfortunate Spaniard on their goal literally scored the goal by pushing the ball into his own net. It seems like Liverpool’s fans have a few idols from the new players already, and one of them is Milan Jovanovic, who played quite well at his debut and is eager for goals, which can be seen in his game. Manager Hodgson has got a great squad at his disposal, which just needs to be fit in perfectly and I believe he will manage to do that quite fast.

Derby of the round

The Englishmen have been scoring plenty of goals lately and even though the majority wants to think this will be a match without many goals, I feel a bit weird trying to imagine these sides won’t play offensive and score less than 3,4 goals. As many as 3 matches in this round of EPL ended with scorelines of 6:0. I think Manchester City will record a home win proving they are not only a contender for the 4th place leading to CL, but also for the title. My advice for this game is the over at some juicy odds.
