rsenal have given themselves a tricky last match with a win needed to secure second spot and further cash injections from the CL comp.

After three comprehensive opening round wins in the CL, Arsenal inexplicably stumbled in the next two attempts to cross the finish line with 2 defeats to Braga and Shaktar, both of which had been dispatched by 4 and 4+ goal margins previously.

Since then Arsenal have played twice more at Home and although winning both they didn`t do in such dominating form.

There has been an absence of truly devasting play to be honest and there has been more said about the scorer than the team performance.

Giving up +2.75 is a big ask when you think that they have managed to do it only 2 from 5 so far, and only 3 from 16 in the EPL.

Time to strike

A paltry one goal in 5 games is a poor return in any league!
In the CL it is a passport to Europe if you`re lucky, or a one way ticket back home.

Partizan have been dismal, of that there is no doubt, but to be fair they shouldn`t be written off as easily as they have been.

Only in 1 of their 5 matches would they have lost to the +2.75 AH on offer.

I`ll take those odds.

Win and Lose

I`ll be happy to see a UK team progress once more, but will be happy to see them lose on the handicap.

If they do put in a masterful performance and win by 3+ again I`ll be in line to applaud, but on all showings thus far I`ll take Arsenal to cross the line, but not by far.

Khimki is an average team, but they don`t have enough quality for the EL standards and it is no surprise they have come from the qualifiers. Also written about them a few times this season, and I think their weakest link is coach Scariolo, who most often seems very clueless in their European games, making the wrong subs and setting the wrong tactics on the court. They have got only 2 players worth mentioning – Langford and Kelati. Kelati has just come back to the team from a long-term injury against Riga in their regional league, and was quite cold from the field so his form is still not at the desired level, and it`s not expected he will be much of a threat in this game. Langford loves to hold the ball and takes most of this team`s shots. Other than him, there are also a few decent shooters like Planinic or Lopez, and the power forward/centers Loncar, Savrasenko and Eze are indeed nothing to be afraid of, and especially the two centers are mainly good in defense, and lack offensive qualities. So in short, there is no team chemistry and they even managed to lose to poor Prokom last week, and I doubt they will manage to qualify to top 16 in EL as they will need like a huge streak of wins in Europe, and they are incapable of achieving that in my eyes.

A major change

There has been one huge and possibly a crucial change in Partizan`s roster during the past weekend as their previous PG Lafayette has been fired and the new PG is Curtis Jerrels, a player who is much more of a PG, much more athletic and agile, and it is very probable he plays at this match on Wednesday as he traveled with the team and even though he only had a few practices with his new team, it is expected for him to play. His arrival is very important as Partizan had suffered on this position previously but miraculously won their games at home in Pionir, and rarely won away – they didn`t even manage to win against Radnicki in the NLB league on the road the past weekend. The reinforcement might not be visible immediately but no matter how little Jerrels has been with the squad, he can`t play worse than Lafayette which only means Partizan will be more dangerous. I believe they will put up a strong performance in Russia.

Partizan could easily win

The bookies have set such a high spread probably expecting the visitors to be without a PG but the latest news state Jerrels will play and that will ignite the guests and help them have the advantage over Khimki. The Russians are really an average team relying only on a few good individuals. Their home gym isn`t a tough place to play, the fans are weak there and I don`t see Partizan having problems to control this game and eventually create a chance to win the game. I see absolutely no major reasons for Khimki to be favored much in this matchup and I am going for the visitors to cover this huge spread for high stakes. The game starts a bit earlier than usual. Good luck.

Partizan is quickly improving and after managing to defeat super-strong Caja Laboral last week in EL at home, they then managed to crush their arch-rivals Crvena Zvezda in the local NLB league by 31 points, and their point guard Lafayette has finally started clicking, being the MVP of the match, hitting shots, and dishing assists, exactly what everybody expected from him so far. It`s true his rivals were not that tough but still, it`s obvious the team is improving as a whole, and even though they`re much weaker than they were last year, they are always playing above their capabilities in Europe and it will be no different this time as well, especially because they know this is a crucial match for their future in the group.

Good form

Zalgiris is definitely the most in-form side of this group, and they`re literally playing super-confident in each match, especially at their home court in Kaunas. They just defeated another EL representative Lietuvos Rytas in the Lithuanian derby over the past weekend by 25 points at home, which just proves how good they`re playing right now. They recorded expected results in EL so far, except for one of the biggest upsets from the last week`s round, when they defeated Caja Laboral on the road showing a very brave approach, and their coach Petrovic and the players announced that they won`t fear the Belgrade atmosphere and that they will be going for the win and try to stay focused the entire game, which is a very hard task to do for any team over there.

Will Zalgiris handle Pionir hell?

The first match between these two this season was at the Euroleague opener and it ended with Zalgiris winning it by 11 and Partizan not being able to do much. The thing is, Partizan wasn`t even close to be complete back then, while now they brought all their new players together, and started playing much better as a team. The atmosphere in their home gym will be really hard on the visitors, and I still remember the last year when Partizan needed to win by 23 points against another Lithuanian side Lietuvos Rytas at home in order to be better in the mutual clashes against them in case of a tie-breaker in the standings, and they crushed them by 30 in a memorable atmosphere. Zalgiris is stronger than that Lietuvos, while Partizan is weaker than they were last season. Still, they are always using the energy they`re getting from their fans in the best way possible, plus they`re improving each day and are looking quite decent as a team. I think on neutral court the chances would be 50-50% as both teams are quite equal matchup-wise, while in Pionir such small spread should be covered by the home team with no problem, and I expect maybe even a double-digit win for Partizan. Good luck.

Prokom has recently received Euroleague`s “A” license which enabled them a long-term contract and a sure spot in this league for the years to come, which again proved that EL organization isn`t about the quality but about the money, as Prokom really isn`t a top European team and many other a lot better teams haven`t had the priviledge to retrieve this license, unlike the Polish side. They`re so rich that they can even afford playing with two different rosters in Euroleague and in the domestic championship, so they got defeated to a much weaker side over the past weekend in Poland. They are also not doing too well in Europe, being winless in the first 3 rounds, and losing to Khimki, Caja Laboral and Zalgiris, showing some pretty poor and unorganized performances. They don`t have too many good players on their squad, a few Americans such are Giddens, Ewing and Brown are decent players but overall they don`t have much quality and they`re playing some quite wild basketball.

Looking better

As I said last week, Partizan is a newly-created team, two recently arrived Americans are still adapting to the system this team has been using for years and they`re looking better in each game. Against Maccabi they looked good in the 2nd half, while against Zagreb in the NLB league they again had many oscillations but really stepped up in the 2nd half and crushed the opponent, lowering the number of turnovers and being more precise from the field, but most importantly their Americans started showing more discipline in their game. It`s obviously clear that Partizan doesn`t possess the quality in their roster that they had in the past few seasons but they have the desire and ambition to improve and I think they are ready to play one good game in Poland.

Ridiculous odds

Before I saw the offer for this game I expected Prokom to be maybe set as slight favorites with odds just below 1.90 at least, but these odds are just ridiculous and I`m sure everybody who follows European basketball more closely would agree with me. These two teams are currently totally equal in terms of quality, as a matter of fact, I believe that on neutral court Partizan would win 7 or 8 times out of 10 at least. Both teams have good players, both teams are average but Partizan is already looking much better as a team and don`t get fooled by their easy loss to Zalgiris on the road in the first round, they`ve strengthened the squad and improved a lot since then. Prokom isn`t looking too good as a team at all, not even now after a while, and the fact they`re saving their best players for EL matches only doesn`t help at all in creating a better unit. I see huge value in such big spread as an away win is quite possible, but I might wait a little bit after the game starts to go live on a straight AW as well. Good luck.

Partizan has finally completed their roster for the season by hiring forward James Gist, who didn’t pass the last cut in NBA. Gist didn’t show too much in his first match for the new team, which is logical as he had only a few practices with the teammates, and Partizan lost to another Euroleague side Olimpija on the road, despite the fact they’ve been leading for some 35 minutes of the game. Partizan even had some 15 points advantage and shot really well, especially for 3, but some unclear decision by their still inexperienced coach Jovanovic have maybe cost black-whites the defeat. However, they seem to be improving by day and look better and better so undoubtedly they are entering this clash with the goal of recording a victory.

Strong

Maccabi has changed their roster quite a lot compared to the last season, and two transfers have really marked their transfer period the most: the arrivals of popular “Baby Shaq” Greek Sofo and terrific coach David Blatt. In the first round they got demolished to Caja Laboral, really playing a lot better next week in front of their fans in the Nokia Arena when they beat Zalgiris by double-digits with 24 points by already mentioned Sofo. The rest of the players worth mentioning in this squad are definitely sigurno Pargo, Perkins, Eliyahu, Eidson, Pnini and Hendrix and it’s certain that the majority of the people from this club still remember the way their team got denied playing at the last year’s EL final four after the playoff series against Partizan exactly.

Partizan underestimated again

Just like against Khimki last week, the bookies are again underestimating Partizan at home, as if they haven’t learned anything from the previous situation. Partizan celebrated against Khimki without having a typical forward in their roster, and without a cohesive game and the players and the coach that are in the process of learning. They’re getting better each week and with the support of their fantastic fans, they’re playing twice as good as they realistically can. Now, they are also complete and I see this one as an even clash to say the least. It won’t be an easy game for neither side but I see value in such underestimating odds on the hosts and will thus try it for higher stakes. Good luck.

Vojvodina as always, is one of the teams in Serbian league that secretly wants to attack the title and endanger Partizan and Red Star’s domination, but somehow they have been failing to do that for a long time. Moreover, they’re getting weaker and weaker. Their president Buturovic wants his team to look decent but somehow never gathers a solid group of players no matter how hard he might try. This season he hired former Partizan’s player Brana Ilic and former Red Star’s player Nikola Lazetic but all that is still poor. He’s got goalie Brkic too, occasional Serbian NT goalie but the main thing about this side is that they are selling anything they can whenever they get a chance and that’s why it’s so hard for them to make any progress. This season their record is 3-3-0 and are already 4 points away from the eternal rivals after only 6 rounds.

Partizan for the win

Partizan’s players proved they can play against Arsenal even though the quality difference is huge between Serbian and Premier League. Partizan could’ve easily gotten a draw in that match but even easier they could’ve lost by a lot more than 2 goals so it could be said they lost by a realistic scoreline and that they’ll be seeking their chance in CL against Braga and Shakhtar at home. Now their priority is domestic league, Moreira even announced he is probably returning to the squad after a long injury and with him in the lineup they’ve got a much stronger team and despite the fact there are still a few totally limited players that just have to play cause their managers are related to the club board, Partizan still has enough quality in their squad for Serbian standards and have all the rights to go for the win in each match they play in this league.

If the odds on AW were something like 1.50-1.60 I would think twice about taking this bet, but to get 2.20 is just too good to be true and maybe even a gift. Partizan is a lot better team than Vojvodina, they need points as Red Star is now tied with them in the tables so every clash is important in the title race. Partizan played a lot more quality and competitive matches than Vojvodina this season and I don’t think how the Novi Sad side will cause them any kind of a trouble with their average lineup. Good luck.

Partizan`s entire team and everybody supporting this club has been waiting for a match like this for about 7 years, which was the last time Partizan hosted one of the biggest European sides in CL. Partizan clearly thought about this match during their last league game against Spartak as well, so that absence of focus cost them in the finishing so they recorded their first draw of the season, still holding a top spot in the standings. They wasted a lot of good goal-scoring chances, being totally dominant but it can also be said their great, young coach Stanojevic rested a few key players in that game as well. They played quite disciplined against Shakhtar in the first round, losing only by 1:0 but they had their fair share of shots on Shakhtar`s goal and were quite equal to the Ukrainian super-expensive side, especially after they conceded the goal and opened up, proving they can play nice offensive footie only if they are not afraid to attack.

Emergency room

The Gunners are probably one of the unluckiest sides in the world when the injuries are concerned as they are constantly playing without many of their best players for a few seasons now. Coach Wenger is, of course, not desperate as he has enough quality players to field two equally good squads, which was again proven in their Carling Cup game when Wenger used many youngsters against their big rival Tottenham, eventually winning by 4:1 in ET. However, they failed to deliver when everybody expected them the most, and maybe they also thought about their CL fixture much more than they did about WBA, and the visitors took the advantage of it, shocking the Gunners with a 2:3 away win. Goalie Almunia surely won`t have a guaranteed place in their lineup in the future as his mistakes definitely cost Arsenal at least 2 of those 3 goals, and the fact they`re without players like Fabregas, Walcott, Bendtner, Van Persie, Vermaelen, Ramsey, while Gibbs and Rosicky are questionable doesn’t make it any easier on them in this match.

Brave till the end

Partizan is a whole different team compared to the last season when they lacked spirit, morale, and character. Nowadays, even though they have quite the same squad as they had back then, their play is a lot different. Coach Stanojevic emphasized they always need to attack as much as the opponent allows them and with the help of their great fans, in one surely incredible atmosphere, anything can be possible. If they don`t allow Arsenal to hold the ball for the most part of the match and easily get past them and get near their goal, then I see a big chance they eventually score against insecure Arsenal`s defense and maybe even win. The odds are definitely too big, Partizan isn`t that bad at all. The biggest advantage for the hosts here is the fact they will not be under pressure and that they have a great coach on their bench, who keeps saying how this game will be a holiday to all, both players and to all the people off the pitch, and under those circumstances, I see an inspired performance by Partizan and a possible upset. Arsenal, of course, might win by 2-3, or even more, as they`re a team that never gets tired of scoring goals, but I see Partizan`s fans and players performing at a high level and with joint forces, reaching a big result for their club. Once again, the odds are too big, and one will be able to green out in-play for sure in any case. I won`t be able to do so cause I`ll be at the game, but hope you guys use my advice here and earn some profit from this fixture. Good luck.

Partizan’s players are already probably thinking about the match of their careers against Arsenal that will be played within a few days on their stadium in the 2nd round of CL. It is possible that the young coach Aleksandar Stanojevic will leave a few of his best players on the bench and field some of the players that haven’t been getting that many opportunities to play so far, such as young striker Scepovic for example. One should also expect a solid support from the stands by their loyal Gravedigger fans per usual. Partizan is certainly a favorite in this match, so I don’t doubt they will record their 6th consecutive win in the league.

Arriving to play open

Spartak is arriving to face the Serbian champs with the desire of being the first team that stole some points from them this season but in order to do something like that, they would need some excellent play, much better than what they usually show on the pitch. Spartak is one of the 5 sides in the domestic league that is still undefeated, staying at the top of the standings. I still think their coach Miranovic and his players will suffer the first loss of the season as I don’t believe Partizan will drop even a single point at home before the clash against Arsenal.

The British Ambiance is all set

Partizan’s stadium is now without the fence that was a few meters high so it looks much better than it did in the past few years. Polished for the big CL clashes, Spartak will have the privilege to be the first team playing on Partizan’s renewed venue. Unfortunately for them, they will probably be the first side to have recorded a loss there as well. Partizan won’t give too many chances to the Subotica side no matter of their lineup in this clash, and they will play their best wanting to show as good of a performance as possible before the clash against Arsenal. Therefore, my bet will be the over. Good luck.

Shakhtar Donetsk isn`t playing as impressive this season as they were doing last year, when they were totally dominant in Ukraine, beating each side by big margins and having a solid advantage over their nearest followers in the standings. This year they actually seem even a bit stronger, hiring Eduardo from Arsenal and not getting rid of any key players, so their squad got only more valuable and its estimated worth is over 120m euros. Their key players are Srna, Jadson, Willian, Chygrinsky, while Fernandinho got seriously injured in their last game and will be out for the season. Of course, he is a very important player for them, but they have enough good replacements for him. Definitely, they are still one of the most quality teams in the Eastern Europe. Still, a loss and a narrow win at home, with only 1 goal scored in their last 2 games in the domestic championship proves they are not in that form they were last season, when they easily defeated their today`s rival at home on their beautiful Donbass arena.

Dream again came true

Partizan is finally in CL after 7 years of waiting, and I could say they entered it mainly thanks to their great, new coach Stanojevic, who revamped this side and make a real competitive team out of them, successfully mixing the experience and the youth in one place, and forcing an attractive playing style, so it` no surprise Partizan is playing each game these days with a brave approach and the goal to outscore the opponent. They`ve got a few players who`ve been in CL with them 7 years ago such as Sasa Ilic or Iliev and then there are of course Serbian first choice goalie Stojkovic, or captain Krstajic, and of course one of their best players this season, Brazilian striker Cleo… They are all ready to put up their best performance and show the world they deservedly entered the most elite European competition.

Partizan not to get humiliated

Partizan was defeated to Shakhtar by 4:1 in Donetsk in EL group stages last season. This game can`t be compared to that one for many reasons. Partizan is playing much better this year than it was the case last season when they were led by a clueless coach, and had a few really bad players in the squad, while Shakhtar was in top shape. Right now, Partizan is playing a fast-flowing and open footie, and the Ukrainians are struggling on the pitch despite all the stars in their squad. This is the first game of the groups for both teams and I expect them to be careful. Shakhtar will surely dominate but Partizan will be extremely dangerous on the counters, so a home win is definitely not a banker here by any means. I think Partizan won`t get humiliated here like the last season, and has decent chances to go home with a draw at least, but even if they lose by one we can get the stakes back, which isn`t a bad deal at all considering everything mentioned above. The odds are really tempting. Good luck.

Anderlecht side didn’t impress much in the first leg in Belgrade but what they showed was more than enough to get a favorable result before the return leg played at home. Coach Jacobs set up quite a coward-like tactics, and until the first goal which was scored after a very simple attack, his team played quite careful and cautious even though it was clear they could reach the hosts’ penalty box anytime they wanted. Great talent Lukako didn’t show much skill and the claims he is in bad form still stand. However, the best player in the ‘Violet’ squad was Gillet, who also scored the first goal and was really the most dangerous player for Partizan’s goal but also terrific in defense too. So, they were quite defensive and careful in the first leg, but this time in front of their fans, that surely won’t be the case.

All or nothing

Partizan was not hoping that they would be just one step away from the new, historical participation in CL, so thus they didn’t invest much in the new squad during preseason. However, now Europa League is secured and they are entering this clash relaxed. Coach Stanojevic, even though being young, is very rational coach, making some sharp and mature reasoning and forcing modern and attractive tactics, so if he had a better team I’ve got no dilemma he would do miracles in Europe with a mind like that. In this situation, I expect him to force a very offensive tactics from the start, and not look back. In case of a quick goal for the black-whites, I don’t think they will start defending but will continue to play the same and that’s why in summary I believe the guests will arrive with a desire to play open.

Goals

This has got to be a match full of goals. I believe Partizan can score one at least, if not more as Anderlecht’s defense isn’t too stable, which was seen on many occasions during the first leg when Partizan’s players were able to pass them, especially on the flanks. Of course, the words shouldn’t be wasted on how hollow Partizan’s defense is, knowing that out of 5 players in that line of the team (goalie and 4 defenders), only Krstajic knows all football basics but even he isn’t as energetic as he once was. Anderlecht surely won’t be keeping the 0:0 scoreline but will want to additionally secure their advantage in front of their fans with a few more goals. That’s why in this clash it’s all possible and a lot of goals is what we will most likely see as these two sides will be going for that in this match. Good luck.
