Match preview: Inter – Napoli

Possible starting line-up: Castellazzi; Maicon, Lucio, Cordoba, Chivu; Zanetti, Cambiasso, Thiago Motta; Stankovic; Milito, Pandev. Inter have new coach, the former Milan`s coach Leonardo. As You probably know, President Morati sacked Rafa Benitez after he asked for new acquisitions. But I doubt things could be changed now. Even more as Inter is without some key players. The first goalkeeper Julio Cesar is injured and Castellazzi will be between the posts. In the defense Samuel is out. The main creative Sneijder is also out due to injury. Finally, the best scorer Eto`o is suspended.

Just three points from the top

Possible starting line-up: De Sanctis; Grava, Cannavaro, Aronica; Maggio, Gargano, Pazienza, Dossena; Hamsik, Lavezzi; Cavani. Napoli is playing excellent this season. They are sharing the second place with just three points to the leader Milan. The team is almost complete for this trip and I am sure the coach Walter Mazzarri will not be afraid of the actual champion. I expect he will try to make a positive result at Meazza.

Inter in deep troubles

Inter is in deep troubles, Napoli is playing fantastic season. So, I don`t understand the bookmakers. To offer such odds for Napoli win is strange. Yes, I am well aware of the fact that Inter is actual Italian and European champion, but that was something different. The situation at the moment is very different. It will be just first match for the new coach Leonardo. He is not familiar with the players and it is very important. Plus, Inter will miss the four key players, the first goalkeeper, one of two main central defenders, the main creative and the best goalscorer. In situation like this I believe Napoli is the favourite here, not Inter. Napoli won the last three matches (against Palermo, Genoa and Lecce) and the players confidence is on the highest level at the moment. Plus, Napoli together with Milan are the best away teams in Serie A with 17 points. Cavani together with Hamsik and Lavezzi are very dangerous and I think Napoli is able to make a surprise here.

Match preview: Roma – Catania

Roma ended 2010 with a great victory against Milan in San Siro. Ranieri`s team was most successful team of Serie A on last month before the break. They collected more points than any other team in Serie A.

Roma is following leader Milan from 7 points behind.

This week might be an advantage for Roma while Inter is facing up with Napoli and shorthanded Milan visiting Sardinia.

Roma don`t have any serious missings except Pizarro,his replacement Simplicio already showed great performance.

One of the worst away teams

Catania finished first part of Serie A with disappointments. Too many people were expecting much better performances from Sicilians but they had disaster results. Argentinian striker Maxi Lopez was out of expectations.

Catania will miss some important regulars before Roma clash.

Terlizzi,Augustyn,Maritomo,Potenza and Izco all are out due of injuries. Catania will try to stop Roma with parking a bus in front of the net and will search counter attacks with Lopez.

Easy 3 points

Roma is the best home team of Serie A. They made a bad start to Serie A but Ranieri`s team started to play better and collect points and now placed 5th. Purpose is to win Serie A for Roma`s side.

Catania will fight for relegation if they keep going with this bad form.

Roma should start to 2011 with 3 points and should get it easily against the Sicilians.

Match preview: Cagliari – Milan

After losing Allegri , Cagliari couldn`t find right coach for themselfs and decided to start with Donadoni. (ex-Milan player)

Cagliari have really good players,even big teams trying to link with them as Acquafresca,Matri,Lazzari.

Cagliari playing more offencively when they are at home. Last two home games Cagliari managed to score total 6 goals and conceeded 2.

I am sure Cagliari will be confident because of Milan`s missings and will try to give a shock to Rossoneri.

2011 must be better

Everybody were talking that Milan will make a big point difference to followers on first part of the league but Rossoneri dropped unexpected points. (Especially on San Siro against Roma, last game of the 2010)

Now Milan will have really difficult test. Without Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He has scored 9 goals for Milan and playing just great. Zlatan is suspended. Not only this, Milan have important injury worries. Defenders Nesta,Zambrotta,midfielders Boateng (who were showing great performance), Pirlo,Flamini.

Milan added one more star to their offence. Now Rossoneri have one of the best offence lines of the World with Cassano,Zlatan,Robinho and Pato.

Good news Pato is back and will start in first 11 with Robinho. Cassano didn`t play long time and will sit on the bench.Its really such a big game for Rossoneri to keep leading Serie A, Allegri`s team has to prove even with injuries if they are biggest favourite of Serie A.

Big game

Even with missings on the paper Milan still have a great team. Nobody knows weak sides of Cagliari more than Allegri. He has been coaching Cagliari for 2 years and he were really successful.

Milan should do everything for 3 points. After 9 points lead and tie it with Lazio or Napoli can break Milan`s confidence. Milan is still biggest favourite of the Serie A.

Donadoni`s men will try to use their offencive power over Milan. Milan will miss two important defenders Nesta and Zambrotta. Without Nesta , Bonera will replace and everybody knows he is Serie B level player. Also Milan midfield will lose solidness defencively,hardworker midfielders Flamini and Boateng are out and in front of the defence who is managing the game ; Pirlo.

Milan still have enough firepower to score goals even without Zlatan.I am sure many teams on the World dreaming to have Robinho – Pato duo.

I am expecting pretty open game and I think goals will decide thats whos the winner. Last season Milan defeated Cagliari 2 times 2-3 in Sardinia and 4-3 in San Siro.

I am expecting another high scoring game here.

Match preview: Genoa – Lazio

I was expecting to Genoa fight for top 4 but they are far from this purpose. Placed 11th on the table and playing totally different football than last year`s. Genoa was better team when they played with 3-4-3 , 4-4-2 formation isn`t suited for them. They become better defencively but offencively a bad team.

Genoa will miss Sculli. Also Genoa`s best defender Ranocchia joined to Inter. I am wondering without him can Genoa keep their good defencive performance?

Reja`s magic

Last season Lazio was a disaster and hardly saved themselfs from relegation zone. Now? They are 3rd and following leader 3 points behind. Reja`s team doing great job. Lazio is more confident now, players knows their winning abilities. Hernanes was great addition.

So far everything is going perfect for Lazio.

Important defender Radu is back to the team.

To lead

Lazio is going to Genoa to take all 3 points.

Genoa already having scoring problems with this formation. Toni and Rudolf two forwards are not enough. Also without Rodrigo Palacio Genoa always needed struggle on offence.

I can`t see also Genoa`s midfield to hold Lazio`s. Mauri – Hernanes and Zarate. Behind them two hardworker midfielders Brocchi and Ledesma. Lazio easily should control the game. Zarate and Floccari linked great. Mauri and Hernanes showing great performances. These reasons are key factors of Reja`s success but his selections were always correct. Lazio surely more motivated side here and should get 3 points from Genoa.

Match preview: Udinese – Chievo

Last season Udinese were fighting in relegation zone and after Francesco Guidolin’s take control , Udinese become a great team again. Udinese managed to win 5 of last 6 Serie A games at home. They did pretty impressive job. in those 5 teams Udinese defeated Napoli,Fiorentina,Palermo. Which means big guns of Serie A. Friuli become a nightmare for every big team.

Di Natale having a great season and hes top goal scorer of Italian Serie A now with 10 goals. Udinese`s key success that their offencive players , all of them in great forms. Chilean Sanchez already took attention of big clubs and Inter ready to make a bid for him. Also Armero and Denis are great players and with their exist Udinese offence getting much more stronger.

Worst thing for Bianconeri that they have worst 3rd defence of Serie A.

Forgot to win?

After sensational win against Inter , Chievo couldn`t manage to win any other game and they showed bad performances on away games against poor teams (Bologna,Lecce) But they aren`t in that bad situation. Placing 10th on table and following 9th Udinese. Against Juventus , Chievo deserved to win but Juventus played 40 minutes defending with 10 men and Pelissier equalised to score on last minute of the game. Chievo will miss Mantovani and Luciano. Both important.

Udinese will continue to win

I would have concerns about Chievo`s deadly dangerous counter attacks but when teams come to play against Udinese, they are forgetting attack while trying to stop Udinese attacks. Yes, Udinese have one of the worst defences but they can cover it with scoring even if they concedes a goal. Udinese will put too much pressure on Chievo as they did against all teams which they played in Friuli and will break the locks of Chievo with their offencive firepower.

Match preview: Juventus – Parma

The Old Lady had a chance to catch Milan,but against Chievo they had to delay their hopes with a last minute goal. But fact is Juventus are unbeaten 13 games on Serie A and it shows Del Neri`s team on the good way.

But mostly Juventus got better results when they played away from home. Their performances in Turin is not impressive.

Bonucci and Giandonato are suspended. Especially Bonucci is big blow for Juve`s defence. Also striker Iaquinta is out due of injury. He were doing pretty good job with his parner Quagliarella with opening more spaces for him in opponents defences. Del Piero and Amauri are fit and probably Del Piero is going to be partner of Quagliarella. Same situation as Roma. While Napoli and Milan having difficult games Juventus will play for only one purpose, purpose is clear ; 3 points.

Still in danger

Parma made terrible start to Serie A till Marino changes tactic from defencive to offencive. With 4-3-3 Parma started to get better results but their away performances are isn`t proving that they are a solid team yet. Parma will miss Marques and Angelo. Parma is still close to relegation zone, they just up by 4 points. I am expecting some high motivation by former Juventus players Candreva and Giovinco against their old teams.

Parma will not skip

Parma managed to score on their 5 of last 6 games on the road. Well if we think Juventus defence will suffer without Bonucci , we can expect Parma to score here. Also as I mentioned Candreva and Giovinco will be eager to give headache to their old teams. Crespo is like a wine, he is showing great performance. He reborned on his old team.

Last year in Turin , Parma defeated Juventus 2-3. Between two teams usually games finished with highscores. I seldom bet according to H2H but Bonucci`s missing,Parma`s offencive firepower and Juventus`s bad performance in Turin makes this bet much more logical. Both teams to score.

Match preview: Roma – Bari

After they successfully completed the CL group stages, and went on to the knockout stages, Roma can now focus on the Serie A. Claudio Ranieri’s side has recovered after a poor start, but is still not playing up to the potential being quite inconsistent. They’re currently 8th in the tables with 23 points, same as the 6th placed Sampdoria, while they’re behind leading Milan by as much as 10 points. The fight for Scudetto is still not over, but at the moment the priority is to take one of the spots leading to CL. A win against Bari shouldn’t be in question as Roma is undefeated at their Olimpico this season, while the visitors weren’t able to record a single away win this year.

Waiting for their first away win

It seems like Bari will take one of the spots leading to Serie B at the end of the season as they’re all alone at the bottom of the tables. After the first 15 rounds, they took only 10 points and are 2 points behind the sides outside the relegation zone. Bari is winless in the last 10 matches, last weekend easily losing to Sampdoria by 3:0. They scored only 10 goals, and conceded 24, so currently there are no indications of recovery for them. To make things worse, Giampiero Ventura’s side is still winless on the road in the league scoring only 4 goals in 7 away matches. It seems unimaginable that Bari will take something from Rome this weekend.

The Wolverine to win easy and convincing

An easy and convincing Roma win at the Olimpico shouldn’t be in question at any point of this match. Bari regularly concedes at least 2 goals on the road and will be quite happy if they only receive that much this time around. Good luck!

Match preview: Bologna – Milan

Bologna is having bad period but not on the field. Players proved with winning last week Cesena derby and on midweek Chievo game. But team is in a cricis. Players aren`t getting their salaries about long time and they have rights to leave club. Even Marco Di Vaio close to go his old team Juventus on January.
Bologna will miss midfielders Perez and Mutarelli.

Impressive season

Milan is having great season after long years Inter`s domination on Serie A. Leader wants to finish 1st part of the league on #1 place, before Roma game which is scheduled next week Milan is highly motivated to this one. Also Juventus and Lazio playin with eachothers which teams are following Milan 2nd and 3rd place , one of them or in case a draw both might lose points. Milan will miss best defender Silva and useful midfielder Flamini. Pato is still out.

First home defeat

Bologna is still unbeaten at home. I think they are going to have first one. Bologna managed to hold big teams as Sampdoria , Juventus at home but Milan is really beyond Serie A this season with fantastic Zlatan, passionate Robinho and in – form midfield which includes players full of energy. Milan and Bologna both had games on midweek , Bologna played an important game with Chievo and managed to win. Milan played against Ajax and rested some importants , players who are on the field didn`t even show their %20 performances. Milan players are more fresh and I can`t see a reason that Milans not to win this game. 0-2 Rossoneri`s win is my call.

Match preview: Napoli – Palermo

Surprisingly, Napoli have won more points on the road than on Stadio San Paolo where the fans always create a volcanic atmosphere, but at least the last two home games were successful as they defeated Parma (2-0) and they have demolish Parma (4-1). The goals galore continued with the spectacular 3-3 away draw to Utrecht in the Europa League on midweek. No fresh injuries for the hosts, while Paolo Cannavaro, Andrea Dossena and Christian Maggio, all rested in Utrecht, will return to the starting XI.

Winning streak

Palermo defeated Roma on last round (3-1), their third consecutive Serie A victory, and now they sit on fifth place, just behind today`s opponents. Palermo also played in the Europa League midweek, but while Napoli still have a chance of progressing to the knockout phase, Delio Rossi`s side is out of the competition after a 2-2 home draw with Sparta Prague. Bacinovic will miss out with a ban, while Abel Hernandez is still out injured, but there is still firepower in the Sicilians` attack with Fabrizio Miccoli, Pastore and Ilicic.

All eyes on Cavani

Only one point separates these teams, so we can expect a very balanced game. Napoli have been pretty unstable at home this season (3W, 1D, 2L), while the guests also mixed great away performances as in the wins against Juventus or Fiorentina with poor displays as against Brescia, Udine or Milan. Palermo will also have to fight against the tradition, as their only victory at Stadio San Paolo in Serie A is a 2-1 win on 1951!, while on the last decade they draw three times and lost the other three games. Though, I will stay clear of the 1×2 market and suggest a bet on Edinson Cavani, Napoli`s hitman, who will face his former club for the first time since his summer departure. Cavani is the team’s top scorer with 7 Serie A goals and he hit his best form, as he scored 3 goals in the last 2 home games, while he also bagged a hat-trick in Utrecht on midweek. Palermo`s president statement, Zamparini, is the best description for Cavani`s killer instinct: “He is an exceptional player and always scores; I just hope he doesn’t score against us”.

Match preview: Fiorentina – Cagliari

Fiorentina has passed the storm from the beginning of the season and are no longer in the relegation zone. However, it can’t be said that Viola made big progress as they’re still in danger of being dragged back into the relegation fight. The side won 16 points in 14 matches and has only 4 points more than the teams from the danger zone. The hopes of reaching one of the first 6 spots are currently put on hold as coach Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side’s priority is to get as far away from the relegation zone as possible. Last weekend, Viola recorded an impressive draw against Juventus on the road, and after that they beat Reggina in the Cup by 3:0, but before that, they won only twice in the last 5 league matches.

Want to end up in mid-table

Cagliari started the last season better than Fiorentina and currently the side from Sardinia has got one point more and is one place higher than Viola. Roberto Donadoni’s side wants to end the season in the mid-table area, and a position within 10 top would be considered as great success. Cagliari recorded 2 wins in the last 2 league matches as they won against Lecce at home last weekend, and before that Brescia on the road. Those points have helped them move up to the 13th spot so they’re entering this clash full of optimism. The red-blues have recorded only 1 road win this season but also lost twice, meaning they’re a very hard nut to break outside their Sant’Elia stadium.

Continuing the tradition

Both sides desperately need points from this match, but the tradition indicates that Fiorentina will record a win here as well, and it was no different in all 12 matches these two sides have played in Florence. Good luck!
