Novak Djokovic was very nervous in his first match in these Davis Cup finals against Simon despite the fact he was clearly a lot better and stronger opponent in that clash. He dominated the match with ease, played a lot of good and tactical rallies, attempted a bunch of unsuccessful drop shots per usual but also had some really amazing winners and great serves, and exploited all Simon`s weaknesses in the best way possible. Still, he wasn`t able to finish the match off when he was serving for it for the first time, but eventually regrouped and did it in 3 and is now aware he will have to give his best to win one more point and most likely leave it all on Janko Tipsarevic, who is the potential hero in the making for his country as he will be the one that will attempt to bring home the championship point.

Fighter

I`ve spoken to a few French fans after the Monfils` game on Friday and they said they were pretty surprised with how bad Tipsarevic played as they believe Monfils is in quite bad form as well, and they don`t give him too many chances against Djokovic. Monfils, however, didn`t play that bad at all, hitting some amazing passing shots against Tipsarevic but was also quite vulnerable and if Janko was more focused in that clash, the match could`ve gone into 5 or at least 4 sets and then who knows what could`ve happened. Anyhow, Monfils was serving at a high level, he played great at times only and was able to reach any ball so overall I`d say he played decent but it`s doubtful that will be enough to match a player like Djokovic.

Nole to start climbing

Just like the French fans I`ve talked to, I also believe Monfils doesn`t have much to hope for here against Djokovic, who is a lot better player and I think he will play much less nervous and much more determined today as he knows he has got to win this match and I don`t think he will feel as much pressure as he did in his first match on Friday. Monfils, on the other hand, should play relaxed, but I doubt he will manage to endanger Djokovic, and I remember many of their mutual clashes (6-0 in Djokovic`s favor H2H), and Nole always dominated those matches managing to break Monfils down sooner or later, and I don`t think it`s gonna be any different in front of 15k home fans. I rarely bet on game handicaps but this time around I think even if there will be 4 sets, I think Djokovic should beat this spread as he will probably win at least one of the sets quite comfortably by a couple of breaks and that should do it for this bet and climb the first mountain on Serbian way to the title. Good luck.

Despite quite an easy defeat in the semis of the Masters finals in London last week, Novak Djokovic hasn’t lost his confidence. He played well at that tourney up to the match against Federer, when he really couldn’t do anything, but really it could be said that he was already thinking about the Davis Cup finals back then and many of his statements over the past few weeks indicated that this is one of the most important matches of his career. Certainly, it is a chance that doesn’t come around very often for many tennis players in their careers, so Djokovic now has the opportunity to take and lead his team and the country to title of the best country in the world, and I think he is quite ready to accomplish that goal.

Wants to make a comeback

Gilles Simon currently doesn’t have that game he had a few years ago when he was a top 10 player and when he was able to beat anybody, but it’s obvious that he is making a comeback after one really poor period of his career. It seems like his form and the condition have improved, and at times he managed to show some pretty good performances with solid effort, and that has always been his main characteristic- persistency, which helped him win some matches that he normally never would. Simon is a player that primarily forces baseline play, his serve varies, but anyhow, it isn’t too strong and rather more tactical and he can often also enter a big series of UEs and basically beat himself. He played decent indoors during this 2nd part of the season, even having the Valencia semis where he lost to Soderling but then he suffered a big blow at “home” playing the 2nd round of Paris Masters, when he got demolished in 2 sets with the Swede only allowing him to win 4 games in total. It’s questionable what kind of resistance will he manage to put up today despite the fact he’s always played his best when he defended his country’s honor, and this season he had 2 wins in 2 matches in Davis Cup.

Novak to win furiously

According to some of my expectations, this final will be decided on Saturday when the doubles will collide. I expect Djokovic to win both of his singles, especially this first one against Simon, who shouldn’t represent much of a threat for him and I believe he could handle that easily and repeat the result from their last mutual meeting played in Beijing about month and a half ago, when Simon lost in 2 easy sets. This time, Djokovic will have to keep his focus for a bit longer as this is a best-out-of-5 situation, but helped by the home crowd, I expect he can break the French down, dominate the match and bring the tying point for Serbia most likely, in case Tipsarevic previously loses to Monfils. The odds are great, and the chances Djokovic loses a set here are below 40%. Good luck.

Rafael Nadal didn’t shine at all in his first match after a few weeks of break, when he met Andy Roddick in the first round of the final Masters in London. Nadal committed a bunch of UEs in the first set of that match, seeming quite unfit and pretty unused to the surface this tournie is played on, but as the time went by, he appeared much better. In the first set, he allowed an easy break by Roddick, with plenty of double faults and missed forehands, which was just too untypical for him but as I’ve said, he stabilized only when he realized he is in great danger, meaning when Roddick had a 1 set lead, and a break advantage in the 2nd, since when everything spun around Nadal only. Last year, he played poorly at the final Masters, so this is a good opportunity for the world number one to leave a better impression by taking one of the higher places in the tournament.

Impressive

Novak Djokovic again wants to take the title at the final Masters after not managing to do it last season. But, considering how good of a shape he is in during this half of the season, it is not excluded at all that he makes some kind of an introduction for the upcoming Davis Cup finals that is awaiting him in about 10 days or so. Djokovic proved he is playing outstanding in the first round against inconvenient Berdych, who didn’t have too many chances to find his usual play, as Nole literally beat him with no problems, using the fact that the Czech entered this clash in a nervous way, breaking him early in each of the sets, not allowing the rival to endanger him on his serve. Although he was already thinking about the Davis cup, he feels like he belongs among the elite and at this tourney and will give his best to get as far as possible.

Derby of the day

This is the derby match and the clash of two players that will be dominating the world tennis scene for the years to come. They know each other really well, being friends off the court, while they’re arch rivals on it. Their H2H is as much as 15-7 in Nadal’s favor, adding that Rafa won their latest and probably one of the most important clashes they’ve ever played – the US Open finals. But, since then, they are in opposite forms, and Nadal also had a few weeks of break due to injury, and currently doesn’t seem like he is in great competitive form, while the surface doesn’t seem to suit him much as well, even though, truth to be told, it is a bit slower. Djokovic, on the other hand, is playing perfect tennis, and I think he should be set as a favorite in this match. The odds on him are rapidly falling and anything around 2.00 is worth a try as I strongly believe he’s got a very good game to beat currently vulnerable Nadal, even though the Spaniard is as you all know someone that never gives up. Due to that, I’m not going on this bet with some higher stakes but I think that a bet on Novak at these odds is worth some medium stakes. Good luck.

Novak Djokovic is in excellent form and fully ready both physically and psychologically so it’s very obvious he is able to endanger both first and second spots in the ATP rankings, maybe more than ever, as he seems ready to bite hard and there is no doubt he totally deserves to be where he is right now. He recently, truth to be told, played bad at the Paris Masters, losing to Llodra but let’s not forget he is one of the rare players who played the most matches of all this season (over 90), having 4 finals behind him and also winning Beijing recently, and Dubai earlier in the year. I think that the cream de la crème in London is a huge challenge for him just like every final Masters, and he will try to win that title same as he did back in 2008.

Not a naive rival

Tomas Berdych can be a very unpleasant opponent to Novak and generally he is a solid player, however I think his place at this year’s Masters finals is a bit overestimated, and I’m afraid he won’t be able to justify the elite status. Well, Berdych hasn’t showed a better result since Wimbledon, and it’s interesting he also got eliminated in the best of 16 in Paris same as Djokovic, with a bit stronger resistance put up against Davydenko. However, his entire season on hard can definitely not be compared to Nole’s, as the Serb showed more quality in his performances overall.

Nole to be convincing

Although Novak had lots of troubles against Berdych in their Davis Cup meeting due to exhaustion from USO, he eventually beat him 3:1 but that was not Novak’s real image and he is now in full strength and rested, ready to win this one in straight sets. Their Wimbledon meeting ended in Tomas’ favor but at that Grand Slam, the Czech played amazing and way above his average capabilities. In the last years, Novak was also better on 2 occassions so I don’t see a problem for him now when he is in form of his life. Good luck!

It is well-known that Novak Djokovic loves to play in this tournie and the Chinese fans just worship him, and due to their loyalty he usually does very well in Asia. Last season he won the title in Beijing dropping just one set in all of his matches. This season he still hasn’t lost a set, and the only possible threat to him could’ve been Fish, but he retired the match. Novak is playing quite mature lately and his success is a logical consequence of some terrific tennis he’s been showing lately.

Fighter but slowing down

Spaniard David Ferrer didn’t have an easy time reaching the Beijing finals, playing 3 sets both against Lu and Ljubicic, and the Croat made his road to the finals especially difficult. As the season is coming to its end, Ferrer’s success rate on hard is dropping, and we can freely say he is playing there only when he has to as he is aware he can be much better on clay. Recently he lost in the Kuala Lumpur semis to much weaker Golubev in 2 sets, and as a reminder, he dropped out of the 1/8 finals of USO to his countryman Verdasco, while his current rival Djokovic almost won the USO title. The Spaniard will certainly fight hard, but how much he’ll resist we’re yet to see.

Novak is better

There’s no doubt Djokovic has returned to Beijing determined to defend the title. However, David Ferrer isn’t a naïve rival and he’ll certainly put up a great fight and I do believe that won’t be enough to prevent Djokovic from winning, as the Serb might be in the best form of his career. I certainly suggest a bet on the over as the total isn’t too high at all. Good luck!

Novak Djokovic has been pretty consistent this season, which enabled him to maintain at the very top and thanks to a great success and the US Open finals, to even reach the 2nd spot in the rankings, which he could easily keep till the end of the year with the goal of attacking the first place in 2011. Djokovic disappointed a bit during the clay-court season but overall he’s been solid, his health’s gotten better, as he even managed to win a crucial match in Davis Cup in Serbia for his team and qualify to the finals after only a few days from playing the intense USO matches overseas. He’s got some very nice memories of Beijing as he won the bronze medal in the Olympics there couple years ago, while last season he won that tournie so he stated now that he is hoping to defend the title again seeing Andy Murray as his biggest threat on the way to the trophy. In his first match he beat home player Gong, who’s 356th in the world, not struggling to much, leaving the opponent only 4 games in total.

Wants to come back

Gilles Simon has played quite poor this year overall, so he dropped a lot in the rankings and is currently 43rd in the world, which is a bit better compared to where he was a few months ago but still much poorer than a top 10 spot he’s had until recently. The Frenchie lost the sharpness in his shots, and for a long time he struggled with physical condition and have been losing to realistically weaker rivals such were Greul, Zeballos, Dabul, O.Rochus… but since USO till now he started performing better, holding on quite well against Nadal at USO, won a Davis Cup match and after that a title at a decent tournie in Metz. Until 3rd in Beijing, he beat Querrey and Berrer in 3 sets each, and I think if he keeps it up, he’ll have plenty of chances to quickly return among the best players in the world.

Tough clash

Everyone knows how dangerous of an opponent Simon is when in good form, and I’m positive that is currently the case as the Frenchman’s performances have only been getting better and better over the past few months. On the other hand, Djokovic isn’t 100% fit right now, he’s had a nice little rest since the Davis Cup and even though he’ll attempt to defend the Beijing title, right now he’s not playing up to his potential and might even use this tournie to only prepare for the remaining Masters events. Anyhow, these two have fought great battles in the past, it’s 4:1 for Djokovic H2H and it should be noted that out of those 5 matches, only 1 ended after 2 sets, and that one also had a total of 22 games, so I’m really surprised by this total cause it all indicates that Simon will give a very hard time to Nole here. Good luck.

Rafael Nadal finally has a big chance to complete his trophy showcase and win the only remaining GS title missing there – US Open. Nadal is in an excellent shape at this USO, and no matter of the opposition he’s faced, it is still impressive to note he hasn’t dropped a single set to the finals in all of his 6 previous matches, playing only 2 tie breaks, and it was in the first 2 rounds when he was just getting warmed up. Last year he had quite a lot of failures, primarily cause of his knee issues, so he got eliminated in the USO semifinals against the later winner and phenomenal Del Potro. Now he again seems in top form, ready to show his best tennis exactly in these finals. What also suits him is the fact he’ll be quite rested, as he toyed around with Youzhny in the semis, winning that match pretty quickly.

Motivation bigger than ever

Novak Djokovic has been waiting for an opportunity to win his second Grand Slam for quite a while now, after the AO title from 2 years ago, and now he will finally have a chance to achieve something like that again. He has been eliminated by Federer from his, maybe the most favorite GS, over the past 3 years but Novak really had enough of that and from the start of this match, despite losing the first set, it was clear that Novak has a great desire to beat Federer so he never gave up even when being down 2-1 in sets, or when Roger had 2 match points on Djokovic’s serve in the 5th set. Primarily due to his brave and risky play, he managed to overcome all of that, but also cause of his big heart on the court, which helped him decide the match in his favor, and bring him a great joy. I am certain he will be at the same level in the finals, and that guarantees top tennis – as Djokovic is currently playing like in the his best days.

The Serb has a bigger heart

Although the match Federer-Djokovic was definitely finals before the finals, there is no dilemma we’re expecting yet another huge fight, where both players will be equally motivated to win the title due to different reasons. They know each other really well, they are about the same age, they are big rivals and undoubtedly after Federer retires from serious tennis, they will be the ones who will be dominating the world tennis scene at almost every tournament, so their rivalry has been huge for a long time already. Their H2H record is 14-7 in Nadal’s favor, adding that Novak won their last 3 matches in straight sets and also won more matches when they played on hard. If Novak hadn’t played such an exhausting match in the semis, the odds here would certainly be a bit more equal but such an underestimation is really not justified as Djokovic has again proven he is a brave tennis player, one of the best ones in the world, able to beat anyone out there. The only question here is what will prevail here? Djokovic’s desire to finally win another GS title after such a long time, or the tiredness factor will catch up. I think the heart will and am going on Nole to win it for smaller stake as I believe in his big heart and in another big result, and even if it doesn’t happen, it is certain that we’ll be having plenty of chances to have some nice greening out in-play. Good luck.

Djokovic is playing terrific at this USO, and it’s clear that despite the difficulties caused by the strong wind, he plays each move with lots of sense and the best proof for that is that he’s won all of his matches except the first one in straight sets. We shouldn’t take that first match seriously as he played Troicki, and in those kinds of matches one can never know if he will play seriously or will relax a bit. The only rival that could’ve troubled him so far was Gael Monfils, but he totally failed to prove his quality in that clash so Nole is entering these semis not too tired. It’s maybe about time he beats Federer and pays him back for the recent loss in Toronto. I think Nole will probably wait for Federer’s often errors at the start of the match so he can attack him before the Swiss finds him rhythm, or else he won’t end up well.

Inspired in the U.S.

Roger Federer has always played well at the North-American tournies, and now his game looks the best in a while, and he hasn’t lost a set and due to his greatness and primarily the knowledge and despite that he is more vulnerable than before, this living tennis legend still looks unstoppable. One has to play with great tactics against him, and using all the weapons that Novak should already know by now, cause despite all the praises for Roger, we all know he isn’t what he once used to be but somehow he still manages to pull out the best from his sleeve. Before USO, he won Cincinnati, when Fish took one set from him in the finals, and according to that, Novak should have a few opportunities to do the same, if not even something more.

Hard to tell who is better

At this USO, Djokovic and Federer are both in great forms, and this will clearly be a lot more impressive semifinals than the other one when Nadal will meet with Youzhny, and where the Spaniard is a clear favorite to win. But, here it’s all possible. Federer respects Novak’s game a lot and knows well that Nole has always been able to give him a hard time, and he can still remember the last year’s Basel finals, when Djokovic beat him the last time, and he did it in Roger’s home town. Recently in Toronto semifinals, Novak needed some luck and courage, and let’s hope he’ll have it this time, so knowing how he’s played so far at this US Open, I am sure he can take at least one set away from him, if not more, so my advice here is a tight match and the over 38.5 games. Good luck!
