Unlike Inter and their current travails, AC have the form and confidence to make another solid showing here vs a Dutch side that have just lost their manager and need a boost for all concerned.

AC Milan are currently riding a wave of form and although they are not exactly prolific in front of goal, they can boast a 10-3-2 record in the domestic league along side a 2-2-1 in this competition.

Against Real they lost the 3pts tally to a late strike from Pedro Leon, but they do have a worthy home defence overall in Serie A , with GAA 0.62 sending out a message to all and sundry.

Tough to beat for anyone, let alone a slightly off colour Ajax.

Dutch Courage?

Martin Jol has left, and Ajax under Frank De Boer make the short hop to Italy tonight with a real need to show some stomach for a fight.

With only 2 wins from the last 8 matches there is not a lot to support their cause here, and a 1-2-2 record, along with just 3 scored, from the last 5 games, highlights the task ahead of them as they face Serie A leaders Milan.`

I can`t for the life of me see where they are going to challenge for supremacy tonight with the pressure of a win needed to secure a spot in Europa on the off chance that Auxerre beat Real Madrid.

Not heavy enough in goal terms to threaten AC Milan. It`s a no go for me.

Home Win

I`m happy with the generally even money offer on the hosts.

They don`t win big very often, but 1-0 will suffice here.

Has the makings of a classic Under2.5, which can be backed at the same odds, but I`ll take what I consider the certain.

Cluj is already eliminated from UEFA Champions League. But many things depend from this match. Cluj is in small crisis, the coach Sorin Cartu was fired after bad results in Champions League and domestic championship. Now Alin Minteuan is in charge for Cluj. He has some problems for this match as Tomas Costa and Gabriel Muresan are injured. Plus Felice Piccolo is suspended. One more player is doubtful – Roberto De Zerbi is back from a leg injury, but still he is not 100% ready. It`s up to the coach Minteuan now. At the end I must say that Cluj players won`t be unmotivated here as every point means big money in UEFA Champions League.

The most important match

This is the most important match for Roma. A point here will mean qualification for the knock out stage. I am sure all the players will give the maximum and somehow try to save the season. I am saying this because Roma is playing bad in Serie A and they are in the middle of the table. For this match coach Claudio Ranieri will be without three important players, all injured. Out of the team are that David Pizarro, Simone Perrotta and John Arne Riise. Still, I am sure that Ranieri will find adequate replacements.

A point is enough for Roma

Roma need one point to secure the second place. They can`t reach the first place as Bayern Munchen have better mutual score (won 2:0 in Munchen, lost 2:3 in Roma). So, I expect a draw here. And I think both coaches will be very satisfied with a draw. It is understandable for Ranieri, a point here will means knock out stage. But I also think the draw will satisfy Cluj coach Minteuan. His team won 2:1 against Universitatea Craiova at Friday and I positive result against Roma may promote him as a permanent solution for Cluj coach. Since Cluj is playing at home, I think they are able to stay unbeaten against Roma.

Real’s squad have quickly forgotten the tough loss to Barcelona and continued playing in the same rhythm. They beat Valencia at home by 2:0, and now they’ll face the last-placed Auxerre and they want to end in a solid fashion. Mourinho has got an excellent squad at his disposition but they’ll be without Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos, who have earned intentional red cards due to time wasting and are suspended for this match. Mourinho, however, has got a proper replacement at each position, so we should expect another win of theirs at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Small chances

Auxerre was supposed to look for their chance a long ago, and now it’s very improbable they will play even in Europa League as they need to beat giants from Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in order to achieve that goal, and at the same time they need to hope Ajax won’t record more than 1 point against Milan. Auxerre is doing much better at home, even though they’ve lost their last 2 matches, first against Milan and then against Toulouse, while they’re mostly recording draws on the road. Jean Fernandez is having a solid team at his disposition, but that squad obviously isn’t an even match to the best European sides, while they also didn’t get such a nice group where they could’ve hoped for too much. They did lose their chances in the matches against Ajax, as they were their direct rivals for that 3rd spot. I think they won’t be able to do much in Madrid tonight, and even if they do, that will be a huge surprise for everyone, even for themselves.

There will be goals

Almost everything is resolved in this group as both favorites are playing at home in the last round and I don’t believe they will be giving out free points to Ajax and Auxerre. Real is first in the standings and can play relaxed, while Auxerre has got small chances for the 3rd spot but in order to achieve that, they’ve got to leave more than 100% of their strength and desire on the pitch in Madrid tonight. Open match and goals are expected, so my advice will be the over. Good luck!

Barcelona have been in good form domestically 12-1-1, while Europe has presented few causes for alarm 3-2-0. In total , this season, they have played 21 games losing only once: 17-3-1. Excellent.

Rubin Kazan appear to some sort of nemesis for old Pep`s boys as they have met 3 times already and yet to win, with Rubin Kazan being the better side in terms of bare results.

With top spot guaranteed for the Spanish hosts there may be the decision to rest key players and give the 2nd strings a run out – and that would make sense, but regardless of the selection of players tonight I can`t imagine that they won`t be gunning for a dominating display to put some of those previous poor results to bed.

Barca should destroy this team, yet always struggle. Why?

True they never seem to excel in their `away` games, of which 2 were vs Kazan, but to lose 2-1 in front of the Home fans back in 2009 was a big slap in the face. Kazan stopped them playing, which is no mean feat and must be respected.

David Villa, Xavi, Pedro Rodriguez and Dani Alves will not be playing in this one, so there will be a different look to them this time round, but I still feel they have the depth to take the win here.

Rocking Rubin

With only 2 goals scored in 5 matches it beggars belief to think this team BEAT the hosts last season. But they did.

Again this time round they frustrated Barca again with a solid 1-1 , but Rubin have not really found any quality overall as they have are 1-3-1 for the Competition, with all games Under 2.5.

Currently they are 14 unbeaten in all comps, so they are not in bad form themselves, plus they do have the incentive to finish second , as it is between them and FC Copenhagen fort that spot.

Another stifling draw won`t help, so they must attack if they want to have the best chance to progress, and that means opening up to the Spanish giants…..and they love that!

Barca Roll Over Rubin

The last 3 domestic games for Barca have resulted in GF16 GA0, and extended their winning streak to 8.

I do not see the visitors scoring, and I can`t imagine the hosts looking for anything other than a comprehensive win over a small club that has been a thorn in their side toooo many times lately.

I`m taking the position that Barca will win this, that Rubin won`t score, and that the hosts will want to win well to erase the memories of the last time the two met at Camp Nou.

Manchester United has got exactly 3 points more than Valencia and this match will decide which one of these two teams will top the group C at the end. Sir Alex has got an excellent side at his disposal, and it isn’t too different from the last season, so MU is playing great in all competitions despite the tough competition they’re constantly facing. Nani, Chicarito, and Berbatov are the main offensive foundation of their team this season, while the defense per usual has got two great men in the likes of Vidic and Ferdinand. Although MU lost to West Ham by 4:0 in the Carling cup on the road, I think that hasn’t got too much to do with the current form as they fielded many B or C team players and decided to focus more on EPL and CL.

Better at home than away

Valencia has proven its quality. They’re 2nd in the standings with a 3-1-1 record. They also lost their last match similar to Manchester United, against Real Madrid by 2:0 on the road so they don’t have much to be sorry about. Juan Mata is one of the biggest stars on their squad, but of course not everything is spinning around just one player. Valencia primarily plays well as a whole and they’re doing it in a very attractive way. It should be mentioned they’re playing much better at home than away, so we can’t say they’re underdogs here but they’re certainly a much weaker side at least on paper than MU, so it’s no surprise the odds on them are huge. I think their chances exist in this match, but very few sides manages to steal points from the Old Trafford.

Derby

This could be one of the derbies of the round in CL, even though all the last round matches in this competition usually have great significance and most or all of the sides are trying to record a good result or at least improve the impression they left in the previous 5 rounds. MU is the more quality side but Valencia also proved they can get far in this year’s CL. My advice will be a HW, possibly by more than one goal difference, and I don’t see a way for Valencia to get out of this road match with points in their pockets.

Twente is in good form and is playing very solid in the Dutch league where they’re currently sharing the first spot with PSV, and are hoping to win yet another title. Unfortunately for them, they did their best in CL and played up to their limits which was only enough for the 3rd spot and I think coach Preud’homme will be quite pleased with Europa League as well. For this match, they will be without their last season’s best scorer Bryan Ruiz, but they still have good attackers on the team like Janko and Chadli. They barely lost their last CL away game they played against Inter by 1:0, and this time they will be going for the win even though only 1 point would ensure them that 3rd spot they desire.

Weakened

Tottenham is currently first in the groups and will certainly try to hold that position after this last round as well, since that would get them an easier rival in the knockout stages. It could be said their CL debut was a bit surprising but a side that has got such good individuals totally deservedly holds the first place in my opinion. This time they will be without quite a few players such are long-term absent defenders King and Woodgate, as well as the terrific midfielder Van der Vaart and defender Kaboul. Gareth Bale is currently their best player and with him as well as with Modric in the squad, I think they are capable of beating anyone, and that’s why they’re optimistic before this away game, and another thing boosting their morale is the fact they’ve got 4 wins and 2 draws in the last 6 matches.

Open

I remember their clash played in London when Tottenham won by convincing 4:1, but it was only in the 2nd half when they managed to break the Dutchmen down. In that clash, Van der Vaart played brilliant against his countrymen but unfortunately for the Englishmen, he won’t be eligible to feature today. Both sides will be going for the win and playing attacking footie and I’m sure both are quite capable of scoring at least one goal each, while I’m somewhat closer to believing in Twente’s victory, who will try to revenge for that convincing loss against the Spurs from their first meeting. The odds are tempting and I’m willing to take it with high stakes.

It`s been a trial by fire in more ways than one for Turkey`s debutants, and tonight will be a chance for them to bow out in style.

They are playing for pride and cash, of course, but I imagine the commitment from the players will not be allowed to falter in front of the home fans as there will be nowhere to hide tonight if less than 100% is given.

I`d put Rangers slightly above them in terms of quality, but that edge can be erased due to Home advantage in this one.

After Man Utd 3-0, and Valencia 4-0, it doesn`t look good for the hosts to get a point on the board, but Rangers are not at that level yet, and have some distractions of their own at the moment.

This is the best chance they will have of recording points in the competition and I`m sure that fact will not be missed here.

Europe Awaits

Both Papac and Broadfoot will not play, Lafferty is out, but the returning Bougherra is a bonus. There is talk from Walter Smith that he will play James Beattie instead of Miller up front, but that would seem strange choice with so much on the line with a player who has had little game time due to injury and the excellent form of Miller.

With Rangers finally getting a takeover sorted out there is a great need to put as much cash in the bank as possible and the bonus on offer here for a win is not to be sniffed at.

They have been almost imperious domestically, but some lapses have happened and been costly : Hibs winning 3-0 was unexpected and poorly fought.

Rangers can score heavily when they want although they have a habit of leaving it late in the game: 25 of the 34 scored have all come in the 2nd half.

I can`t see them losing this one, but a win may be tricky if they elect to start with a `rusty` Beattie.

Take the safety of the +0.50 and be assured of a good run for your money.

Tight Tonight!

Rangers have shown beyond a doubt that they can compete in the CL. They lack the players and the budgets of the better placed clubs, but with what they have to work with I think they have done a very good job.

Playing any Turkish side is a tough task, with a fan support second to none in its fanaticism. Maybe the Rangers fans will meet their match in that area tonight!

Rangers have the cash incentive with 750K on offer for 3pts and a club takeover in the offing. Nobody will be taking it easy. This is an all out win scenario.

The half ball on the AH is a definite way to get involved when you look at the respective domestic form and recent results in the CL.

Tottenham Hotspur is placed in the 6th spot (22 points, 6W – 4D – 4L) in English Premier League. They are coming back to win the North London Derby against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. This fact didn’t happen since 1993. I’m quite sure weekend has been long for Tottenham’s supporters and even the players.
Spurs are being very unstable this season in Premier League, but this fact is not new for Tottenham. I always think that Tottenham and Atletico Madrid are the most unpredictable teams around the world. One day they win against Arsenal away from home, other day they are not able to win Sunderland at home. Simply Spurs are non-logic team.
Anyway they stay involved in great run in Champions League. They made two excellent matches at home against Twente FC (4-1) and Internazionale FC (3-1). Gareth Bale has revealed as the best sensation in Europe this season so far.
Spurs are plenty of injury players, so I expect something similar as the line-up in last weekend.
I’m expecting something like this: Gomes; Hutton, Gallas, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto; Jenas, Modric, Rafael VdV, Lennon, Gareth Bale; Pavliuchenko (Crouch).

Thomas in Danger

Werder Bremen is placed in the 12th spot (15 points, 4W – 3D – 6L) in German Bundesliga. Werder Bremen stays in crisis, clearly in crisis. They played an important game last Saturday against Schalke and they were trashed (4-0) away from home. They have conceded 10 goals in their last two away games.
Thomas Schaaf (coach) is having a lot of problems with injuries and he isn’t being able to make good football and manage good results in Bundesliga and Champions League.
Werder Bremen has a lot of defensive problems. They conceded 4 goals against Internazionale FC, they also conceded 6 goals against VfB Sttutgart and finally they conceded 4 goals against poor Schalke this season.
Werder Bremen has a ton of injured players. Mainly they will have Claudio Pizarro out of 2 weeks more. He is their best striker and possibly the best player in the squad.
I expect something similar as the team which made a disaster this weekend: Wiese; Fritz, Mertesacker, Prödl, Pasanen; Frings, Bargfrede, Wesley, Hunt , Marin; Almeida.

Decisive for Spurs

This is a crucial match for Spurs. They will qualify if they are able to win Werder Bremen. This fact would be wonderful news for Tottenham’s home crowd which is thirsty and hungry of successes in last decades. Obviously, they are coming back from an emotional game against their eternal rivals and maybe they may be a little unfocused, but they can’t afford losing these points and have to play in the last fixture of the group against dangerous Twente FC away from home.
On the other hand, Werder Bremen will have to play a tight and important game against St. Pauli. They need those three points and I don’t think they play at full strength on Wednesday against Spurs when their chances to progress to the next round are minimal.
I think Spurs’ victory is highly probable and although the odds on AH (-1) are not quite appealing, I think they are going to win, but I’m not going to risk in another higher handicap because Spurs is capable of anything in this World. I expect a pretty open match. Spurs and Werder Bremen are offensive minded teams which are capable to score several goals in any matches.
This is a great chance to catch foe Spurs side and manage the dreamt qualification.

Inter is in big crisis at the moment. They lost from Chievo at Sunday, before that lost from city rival Milan. They are big nine points behind Milan at the moment and the coach Rafa Benitez is under great pressure. I won`t be surprised if he resign this week. The match against Twente is not crucial, but a victory here will secure Inter progress in the knock out stage. But the problem for Benitez is that many players are unavailable. Tonight Inter is without Diego Milito, Walter Samuel, Thiago Motta, Maicon, Julio Cesar, Cristian Chivu and Coutinho.

Nothing to lose

Twente is currently third on the table with two points less then Tottenham and Inter. A defeat at Giuseppe Meazza will surely means end of the hopes for progress. Coach Michel Preud`homme has almost all players available as only defender Rasmus Bengtsson is out due to groin injury. The good news is that midfielder Theo Jansson is available.

Twente is able to make surprise

I think Twente is able to stay unbeaten at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. They are solid team that made lot of problems to Inter in the first leg. The final score was 2:2 and I expect something similar here. The main reason for my pick is fact that Inter is in big crisis. Coach Rafa Benitez is under big pressure and he has many unavailable players. The players confidence is lost and it is always difficult to play in such situations. But I think Benitez will be satisfy with one point here. So, draw is very probable.

Schalke are a good team, and won 7 points in their last 3 matches. They have a good chance at home ground tonight, but Lyon should not be underrated. Lyon are not still qualified so they also need something out of this match. They miss three players, Hoogland, Kenie and Plestan. They are not doing well in their domestic league, but a win here could be their way out. They will surely go for a win.

Lyon has to improve

Lyon are not qualified yet, but they have their last match against Hapoel at home, so since they have a hard 2 weeks of football they will probably rest few key tired players. Lyon are regardless a great team, and could cause some problems for Schalke. They embarrased themselves in Portugal where they conceded 4 goals. I think this match will not bother them as much as it does Schalke.

Schalke`s chance

Schalke played well this Champions League season, and well deserve to go through this group. They lost to Lyon after an unlucky own-goal, and in that match they shown some nice football. They are now better, mainly because Raul looks adapted after scoring a hat-trick in their last match. I give some advantage to Schalke.
