Match preview: Dortmund – Schalke 04

I want to take this one early as the odds might drop a bit. Dortmund will be hosting Schalke in Bundesliga.

Dortmund have an 11-point lead over second placed Leverkusen ahead of this round and looking at their form, i would say they are already champions. At home, their record is 6-2-1 with a 19-5 GD. After the 1-1 disappointing draw with Stuttgart at home, they went on to win 3-0 at Wolfsburg, in a game where they did not even seem to try hard, as Wolfsburg had all the balls going towards Diego, who was permanently harassed by the defensive MF Bender. Kagawa of course will not be available for this game as he will undergo surgery after the injury sustained in the NT duty with Japan, while important defender Subotic i suspended one round of yellow cards cumulus. Still, we have seen a very good form from Gotze, Grosskreutz and even Barrios is rising his play in the last games.

Schalke were expected to be in a better position at the moment, but only 11th place has disappointed the fans. An away record of 3-2-4 is not something to brag about and even though they manged two wins in a row away, against decreasing Mainz and Hannover, a team that can only play well on counters, Schalke lost two in a row at home, against Hamburg and Hoffenheim, both 0-1. Raul and Huntellar up front are two big names, but without proper support, they cannot do much themselves. Moreover, neither of them is good at pressing and blocking angles, so Dortmund’s defense will easily pass the ball around them and open up the MFs to create more chances. Schalke will be missing Charisteas, Hoogland, Kenia and Sarpei for this game.

First game between them this season ended 3-1 in favor of Dortmund. The difference in quality and passing style is huge at the moment, and even though Schalke has some big names in the roster, this will not help them. Simply Dotrmund’s style does not suit them and i expect the hosts to have better possession, more chances and eventually to score more goals than the visitors. A score line of 2-1, 3-1, maybe even more is quite possible here, so i chose to take HW + O 2.5 offered by Bet365 because the simple HW odds were low at 1.65. Good luck.

Match preview: Bayer Leverkusen – Borussia Dortmund

Bundesliga will come back this evening after the winter break, with an exciting game between two top 3 teams. On Bay Arena, Bayer Leverkusen will meet the current leaders Borussia Dortmund, in an attempt to reduce the 10 points gap that separates them.

The visitors impressed so far, losing only 2 games and allowing only 10 goals in their goal, having the best defense from the league by far. Even if they are the only Bundesliga team able to play defense, their attack is not to be neglected, scoring more than 2 goals per game in average. They will be without Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa who travelled with the NT for the Asian Cup. He will most likely be replaced in the first eleven by Kuba or (why not?) Zidan.

Bayer is a spectacular team, able to score many goals but their defense is their Achille’s heel. They conceded 2 goals in every one of their last 4 games before the break but they still managed to win two of them, while the others ended in a draw. As we see, their attack is working smooth and now both Kiessling and Helmes are fit to play. Add the support from Sam and Renato Augusto behind them and we have a great amount of creativity and fire power upfront. Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal is a doubt for this game, but he could be replaced by Bender, while Ballack is recovered after a long injury and will probably take a sit on the bench.

As much as I don’t understand why Bayer are set at favorites here, I have my doubts in backing BVB as well. For me, the best bet here is a bet on goals since both teams have good attacks, while Bayer’s defense is simply weak. Also, considering Bayer’s attacking force, I doubt BVB will have any chances in keeping a clean sheet, therefore they will need to open up and take more risks. The odds for the over 2,5 goals are quite high for a Bundesliga game and I think they are worthy of a mid-high stakes bet.

Match preview: Hamburger – Bayern M.

Probable starting eleven: Rost – Demel, Westermann, Mathijsen, Jansen – Kacar, Rincon, Ze Roberto – Trochowski – Guerrero, Van Nistelrooy. Hamburger is in good form at the moment. In the last round they won against Mainz on road and it was a very important victory. Before that Hamburger won against Kaiserslautern. So, their morale is very high after two consecutive wins. But Hamburger have some problems for this match. Dennis Aogo, Dennis Diekmeier, Romeo Castelen, and Eljero Elia are all out due to injuries.

Worst start in the history

Probable starting eleven: Butt – Lahm, Tymoshchuk, Badstuber, Pranjic – Ottl, Schweinsteiger – Altintop, Mueller, Kroos – Gomez. This is the worst ever start for Bayern Munchen in Bundesliga history. They are currently on the 10-th position on the table and they have to improve. Anything else will be like catastrophe. But coach Van Gaal has lot of problems with injuries. Two key players, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben are injured. Plus, Mark van Bommel, Miroslav Klose, Breno, Diego Contento and David Alaba are also out of the team because of injuries. Two important players, Ivica Olic and Daniel van Buyten, are back from injuries, but Van Gaal decide not to start with them having on mind they are far from ideal form.

I expect an efficient match

I expect an efficient match at the full HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg (capacity 57,000 spectators). Both teams are currently in good form. Hamburger is in series of two victories, while Bayern also won the last Bundesliga match against Hannover with 3:0 and UEFA Champions League game against Cluj with 3:2. Van Nistelrooy and Guerrero will lead home attack and I think they are very dangerous and experienced goalscorers. And Bayern is Bayern, they must attack and try to win, no matter the opponent. That is why I am expecting goals here. Bayern have the quality even without Robben and Ribery. So, I think Over 3.5 goals can be scored at Nordbank Arena tonight.

Match preview: Arminia Bielefeld – MSV Duisburg

Former Bundesliga outfit, Bielefeld are having hard times as they remain down on the bottom of the table on just three points. The sole win came against relegation fellow strugglers, Ingolstadt, and apart that game, they lost all the others, scoring a poor tally of 6 goals, while they conceded 14. Former international, Oliver Neuville, now 37, is the leader of the team, but except him, Heidinger or Guela, the others are struggling to play some decent football. What is more, the team is also confronted with financial problems, so the sunny days seem to be far away for Arminia.

Promotion ambitions

To oppose with Bielefeld`s misery, the guests are having an impressive season so far and could move up to third in the table, assuming they can win today. The Zebras won 5 of their 7 games and have one of the best score lines from the league (13 goals scored and just 6 conceded). Stefan Maierhofer-Srdjan Balak compose one of the most efficient attacking-partnerships on 2.Bundesliga with 7 goals, while Olcay Sahan Ivica Grlic (both of them with 2 goals each) providing plenty of support from midfield.

Hopeless

Bielefeld seem hopeless at the moment, they are totally out of form, their shaky defense look unable to keep a clean sheet, while also the recent tradition with Duisburg is against them, as they lost the last 4 games from the SchücoArena. A home win would be a huge surprise under the given circumstances and is very unlikely.

Match preview: Kaiserslautern – Frankfurt

Kaiserslautern started the season with good results. They even managed to beat the champion Bayern Munchen with 2:0 in the second round, after won 3:1 against Koln in the opening round. But since then Kaiserslautern have no victory. They are closer and closer to the relegation zone. For this match Kaiserslautern will be missing Jan Simunek.

Two victories in last two rounds

Eintracht Frankfurt is in very good form. They won in the last two rounds. First they won 2:0 against Nurnberg and the won 2:1 against Stuttgart on road. I am sure the last victory will increase the players confidence. The team is almost complete for this match, only long-term casualties Zlatan Bajramovic and Sebastian Rode are out. Coach Michael Skibbe finally find the right form and I expect they will continue.

Frankfurt is in better form

The current form is on Eintracht Frankfurt side. They are in a series of two victories in a row, one against Stuttgart as visitors. It is interesting that Frankfurt is without a draw. They are playing all or nothing style. They won 4:0 against M`Gladbach also as visitors, which clearly showed they are able to win any team. Kaiserslautern is totally out of form with 4 defeats in last 5 rounds. Even the last match played on 14.12.2005 ended with Frankfurt victory. With the goals scored by Weissenberger and Copado they won 2:1 as visitors. I believe in something similar now. Only this time Gekas or Chris Maicon Hening will be the scorers.

Match preview: Werder Bremen – Freiburg

Werder, along with other big names from Bundesliga, are enjoying a bad start of the campaign with only 2 wins from 7 games played. They were a classic overish team, with entertaining games and lots of goals scored. Times changed a little along with Ozil’s departure, but now Marko Marin is looking better and better and he could be a realistic solution to replace him. Marksman Pizarro is still injured but in attack they can rely on Arnautovic and Hugo Almeida. This week Pizzaro started some light training but it is hard to believe he will feature against Freiburg. Also, a very important man in the midfield, captain Frings, will have to face a late fitness test in order to decide whether he will play or not. Defense is Werder’s biggest problem this season, especially because the pair Naldo – Mertesacker was hampered by injuries. Prodl will pair Merte, but the flanks will be a problem again, since Silvestre is old and slow, while Fritz will miss on the right.

Good start

Freiburg is on the top half of the charts after 7 rounds, being a rollercoaster team so far. They are also troubled by injuries. First choice keeper Pouplin is injured and will be replaced by young Baumann. Butscher and Krmas are long term missing, while midfielder Hunter and Bechman will also miss due to injuries. Their landmark this season is Senegalese striker Demba Cisse, who was in a terrific form, scoring 7 of Freiburg’s 11 goals.

Goals

In the last season, Werder simply dismantled Freiburg, winning 4-1 and 6-0 but now things are a little changed. Both have some serious squad problems, Werder had a bad start while Freiburg a good one, although I expect them to retard in the following weeks. Since Werder can’t fix its defensive issues, at least they started again to score goals. Freiburg also score in every game so far and Werder’s defense is just an invitation to do it again. All in all, I expect at least 4 goals to be scored tomorrow so a bet on over looks like a very good idea. Good luck!

Match preview: St. Pauli – Hoffenheim

St. Pauli promoted from Bundesliga 2 this season. Due to this fact it could be thought that they play defence focused football. But the opposite is true. The “Kiezkicker” are an offensive minded team and their coach Stanislaski has told that they will play offensive even in Bundesliga 1. The first game in Bundesliga has shown that this is true: they won 3:1 away against Freiburg. 3 out of their last 5 away games were over 2,5.

GREAT START

1899 Hoffenheim played a disappointing last season. But we have to remember that a season ago, they were the best team in whole Bundesliga until Autumn with the best goalscorer Ibisevic. It seems they have find their form again, because they have beaten Werder Bremen in their last game 4:1. All goals were scored in their first halftime. All strikers scored.

GOALS

We have a clash between two offensive minded teams. Although the odds have fallen a bit (I took a 2,0), they still represents value. The attack of both teams is surely better than the defence. The last clash between both ended 3:1 in favor of St. Pauli. So we sould see goals. Good Luck!

Match preview: Eintracht Frankfurt – Hamburg

Eintracht Frankfurt had at bad start. They lost against poor Hannover 96 away 1:2. They were not bad, but showed some defensive problems. In the past Frankfurt played defensive footbal. But coach Skibbe changed the style to a more offensive minded one. So it is no surpise that their last five games all ended over 2,5. Striker Amanatidis has shown good form in the preparation of the season.

GOOD START

Hamburger SV had a good start. Thanks to Van the Man they beat Schalke at home in their first match 2:1. They played good and deserved the win.

GOALS

Both teams showed in the past that they conceded and scored many goals. Another reason for the over is, that Frankfurt misses their first goalkeeper and the most important defensive player. HSV has scored two goals against Schalke, who has national keeper Neuer and traditionally a good defence. HSV defensive wing Aogo is out. I think we should at least see 3 goals.
