Sampdoria is definitely more rested than Werder. They have a 2-goal deficit which isn’t too big and unreachable, especially because Werder arrived depleted and beaten cause of the loss they suffered against Hoffenheim. Sampdoria is an excellent side that wants to participate in CL and in order to do that they firstly have to win this match, so they will be having an imperative to win. Sampdoria would be a pleasant surprise in CL and it would be interesting to see how they would handle that competition. Anyway, to see them there they need at least 2 goals in Werder’s net without conceding any and I think they can and will win but will it be by enough margin to advance, I cannot tell for sure.
Holding the advantage in any possible way
Werder’s side created themselves quite a solid advantage in the first leg last week, but now they are traveling to Italy quite weakened with only 14 players in the squad and clearly shaken after a huge loss to Hoffenheim (4:1). Thomas Schaff can’t count on players like Almeida, Hunt, and many others, of course on Ozil as well, who moved to Real Madrid. In my opinion, Werder has got no chance to win this match but has a small chance to maintain the 2-goal advantage and enter CL group stages, where they certainly belong.
It will be close
Werder squad has a 2-goal advantage but the question is will that be enough for them. Over the past weekend, after a starting 1-0 lead against Hoffenheim in Bundesliga, they got ran over in only 30 minutes of that match eventually losing 4:1. Sampdoria still didn’t even start the season so they are certainly more rested than Werder, who is arriving depleted to Italy. My advice is a home win. Good luck!
