Wigan won against Wolverhampton and got away from the relegation zone, but they are still pretty much in it since Fulham won yesterday. For this match they will have Hendry Thomas and Maynor Figueroa back. But they still miss a host of players, including Emmerson Boyce, Franco Di Santo,James McCarthy and Moses.

Arsenal without skipper

Arsenal will play without Cesc Fabregas because he is suspended after picking up 5 yellow cards. They could profit with returns of Marouane Chamakh and centre-back Sebastien Squillaci. Also Diaby and Arshavin could start the match. They have a great team, and with a win against champions Chelsea they will probably do anything to win against Wigan.

Arsenal confident

Arsenal are in form and need every point to keep up with Manchester United and City. After winning against Chelsea they have the confidence and everyone just wants to get another win for a happy New Year. I think they will manage to get one because they are simply the better team. Wigan are just way too weak for them at the moment, because Arsenal is in form and need points.

Despite being less impressive this season and not having Wayne Rooney at his best, Man Utd. remain the only unbeaten side from the Premier League in their opening 15 league matches (8W, 7D) and have lost just once in 29 matches in all competitions. They have a perfect record on Old Traford (7 wins and a draw), scoring an average of 3 goals per game. No selection worries for Sir Alex, as Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes have recovered, while Wes Brown and Jonny Evans are also available

On top of the table

Arsenal is on top of the table, level on points with Man City, but with a game in hand, and one point clear of Man Utd. The Gunners are on a four games winning run in all competitions and have won four out of their last five league games, while they also boast the best away record from the league (5W, 2D, 1L), but this is the big test for Wenger`s side. Kieran Gibbs is out, while Cesc Fabregas is doubtful and Wenger has rated him with only a “small chance” of facing United.

The Gunners against the tradition

Arsenal have always been competitive and a real title challenger, but if they want to win their first silverware since 2005, they need to improve their stats against arch rivals, as Arsenal`s record in their last 10 games in all competitions against Man Utd and Chelsea is: P10 W0 D1 L9 F5 A22 and the Gunners have lost seven of their last nine trips to Old Trafford in league and cup. It will be the moment of truth for Wenger`s lads and their unproven goalie Fabianski and the central defensive pairing of Koscielny and Squillaci. Arsenal`s philosophy is to score one more than they concede (they have failed to score only on 3 of their 25 competitive games this season), so goals shouldn`t be a problem for the Gunners. Rooney loves to score against Arsenal, as he scored his first Premier League goal and his first league goal for Manchester against the Gunners, while Berbatov (11 league goals this season), Chamakh (7 league goals) or Nasri (12 goals/8 in the league), who scored 4 goals in the last 3 rounds, are good bets in the scorers market. This is a hard game to predict, but there should be some goals with free-scoring Arsenal and their shaky defense (8 out of the last 10 head-to-heads have been Overs).

rsenal have given themselves a tricky last match with a win needed to secure second spot and further cash injections from the CL comp.

After three comprehensive opening round wins in the CL, Arsenal inexplicably stumbled in the next two attempts to cross the finish line with 2 defeats to Braga and Shaktar, both of which had been dispatched by 4 and 4+ goal margins previously.

Since then Arsenal have played twice more at Home and although winning both they didn`t do in such dominating form.

There has been an absence of truly devasting play to be honest and there has been more said about the scorer than the team performance.

Giving up +2.75 is a big ask when you think that they have managed to do it only 2 from 5 so far, and only 3 from 16 in the EPL.

Time to strike

A paltry one goal in 5 games is a poor return in any league!
In the CL it is a passport to Europe if you`re lucky, or a one way ticket back home.

Partizan have been dismal, of that there is no doubt, but to be fair they shouldn`t be written off as easily as they have been.

Only in 1 of their 5 matches would they have lost to the +2.75 AH on offer.

I`ll take those odds.

Win and Lose

I`ll be happy to see a UK team progress once more, but will be happy to see them lose on the handicap.

If they do put in a masterful performance and win by 3+ again I`ll be in line to applaud, but on all showings thus far I`ll take Arsenal to cross the line, but not by far.

Despite appointing a great manager as Houllier, Aston Villa are still lacking something. They are barely 13th, not even in the top half of the table. It is a big dissapointment for all of them, the players and the fans. They have no European Competition to turn to. Carew could be back, at least benched. Collins is doubtful. They miss so many players, just naming them would see why they are playing this bad. Players like Delph, Petrov, Heskey, Reo-Coker are vital for this team, and adding Weimann, Sidwell, Albrighton, Cuellar, Beye is just adding salt to injury. They miss a whole team, and even Robert Pires could play. I don`t have much confidence in him making any improvements for Villa, specially in this match.

Arsenal have a good chance

Arsenal lost their Champions League match, and they are still not 100% travelers to the knockout stages, but that is not such a big worry. They lost Fabregas for this match, the captain will be surely missed today. This match is quite important for them, because they need to catch up with the top again. They were 1st at one point, but now they are 3rd just one point better than City. Van Persie and Arshavin return from being rested at Braga. Clichy returns aswell, so they can have a great team.

Aston Villa has poor record

Aston Villa won just one of last 23 matches against Arsenal, what is a miserable stats. In their matches just one home win was made in last 8 matches, so we can expect Villa to perform bad. They have a good reason to play bad because they miss 11 players. I give my advantage to Arsenal, since Villa are so under-performing and are just 13th in the league.

Braga is not playing well at all. They’ve done their work in CL by knocking Partizan out over 2 legs in the race for the third spot even though they might even be worse than the Serbian side. Braga has 5 losses and 5 wins in the last 10 matches, which isn’t too great of an achievement though. They’re a mediocre side full of Brazilians so maybe they’re where they’re right now, as those are all attractive fast-paced players, but their playing style can often be damaging to the team. I think they won’t be able to do much in this match, but we are yet to see.

Something to prove

The guests are obvious favorites here, mainly cause they’re first in this group and are fighting to remain there just like in the EPL. They’ve lost to Tottenham at home over the weekend are now probably mad cause of that, and Braga might be the perfect target for relieving their anger on. They don’t even need to win but their young players and the ones not playing too often will be seeking their chance to prove themselves so I expect goals by then. Wenger will mix his squad as usual but I’m not sure of the lineup yet.

Goals

Although Arsenal’s safe, I think they won’t be hesitating too much and be playing like it’s an exhibition match, and despite they won’t be fielding the best squad, they’re super-strong even if they use their B lineup, so Braga will certainly have a tough job. I expect to see goals in Portugal tomorrow, so my advice for this match is the over without a doubt.

Arsenal is 5 points behind Chelsea in the league and they are coming after 3 consecutive wins. In the midweek, they’ve made a long travel to Donetsk for their CL game but Wenger left many important players home because they had some minor injuries. Song, Denilson and Arshavin are still rated as doubts but I give them high chances to start tomorrow, while Fabregas fully recovered and Wilkshire will be back from suspension. Also Walcott made his come back at Donetsk and managed a nice goal. With all these players back in the squad, Arsenal’s attack will get a boost, their only concern remaining the defense, where the injury list is unchanged.

Attacking minded

After only one year in the Championship purgatory, Newcastle came back in style. They are enjoying a good season so far, being in the first half of the league table and creating some really entertaining games lately. Last round, their fans enjoyed the trashing of Sunderland, 5-1, but it’s true they had their job easier by playing around an hour with an extra man. Their defense is not top class and often prone to mistakes but their attacking players are getting along very well and could score against every Premiership team. Manager Houghton doesn’t have any fresh injury concerns compared to last round.

Goals

I expect a very entertaining match tomorrow at Emirates between two offensive minded teams. I doubt Newcastle will try to bunker themselves in the defense like West Ham did last round since this simply isn’t their mentality. Arsenal is strengthened by the return of those midfielders and their creativity will be superior to what they showed last round. Not to mention, these two teams previously meet around 10 days ago, in the Carling Cup, with Arsenal comfortably winning 4-0, despite playing with a mixed squad. Taking all these facts into consideration, I think a bet on goals it’s the right one here.

With 2 wins in the first 2 rounds, Arsenal has justified the role of the main favorite of this CL group proving they should have no problems taking the first spot. Now they’ll be hosting their biggest rival for the top, and a side that has the same amount of points as they do. If Arsenal wins, they will probably secure the first place, and I believe they will as they’re a better team than Shakhtar. Not too many words should be spent on describing Arsenal as they are all stars and terrific footballers,Wenger has got if not 2 then even more equally good players on each position, able to jump into the starting lineup anytime, and maybe their weakest links are goalies Almunia and Fabianski, but they also sometimes have a brilliant day, which was surely the case in the last round when Fabianski had a very good match against Partizan in Serbia.

Going for the win

Shakhtar side has got nothing to lose, they’re coming to London to play open football and hope for a surprise and a possible win, which could get them to the top of this group’s standings. They don’t have to worry much about being surpassed in the tables for another round as Braga and Partizan have got zero points. Shakhtar’s coach Mircea Lucescu’s biggest hopes are on the Brazilian quintet that will be without Fernandinho due to injury, and of course there’s also team captain Dario Srna, their only goal scorer in the first round of CL and probably the best player.

Derby of the group

This is by all means derby of this group as the group favs will be facing their only real rival for the top place. Arsenal is the better side though, and I think they’ll prove it here. Shakhtar is coming to London to play good and open football and seek their chance through that kind of play. My advice is that the hosts will prevail under such conditions and not give any points at home at their Emirates stadium so in my view, a HW is the only clear choice for this match.

rsenal is coming after two consecutive defeats in the PL and they are looking to bounce back tomorrow evening against Birmingham. They’ve been hit by injuries for the entire season and this is still causing headaches to Wenger before tomorrow’s game. From the previous game against Chelsea, Sagna and Koscielny picked injuries and they are out. They’re added near Vermalen and Almunia, so 4 out 5 defensive players will miss. Anyway, Gibbs will be back and Djourou might get a chance to play near Squillaci in the center. Fabregas is also recovered by Wenger decided not to risk and use him only Tuesday. Bendtner and Walcott are also fully recovered and they might play some minutes against Birmingham

Dull team

Alex McLeish’s side are a typical mid table tough to beat and aggressive team, all in one. Still, they are traditionally poor on the road and they didn’t start this season in a convincing manner. They lost 2 of their last 3 games and they will also have some squad problems for tomorrow’s clash from Emirates. Their missing numbers aren’t by far close to Arsenal’s but neither is their value and depth of the rooster. Two important regulars will miss tomorrow: midfielder Craig Gardner and striker James McFadden, first due to suspension, second due to injury. Striker Cameron Jerome is doubtful, while fringe player Beausejur is also injured.

Home win

I believe Arsenal will bounce back tomorrow in front of their own fans. Birmingham will probably defend and try to frustrate the hosts so Arsenal’s defensive missing will probably go unnoticed. On the other hand, their attacking players are fit most of all and I really expect a siege tomorrow on Emirates, with the game being played only in Birmingham’s half. If Arsenal will manage to keep a high tempo, I believe they can’t fail to win and they will do it even at a bigger margin.

Chelsea is currently one of the most in-form sides in the world. Chelsea is also, according to everything shown at the beginning of the season, the main EPL title candidate. They have 3 points more than the 2nd placed Manchester United, and might even improve this gap after the sunday`s derby. They are superior in all parts of the field to their opponents not only physically but also tactically as the level of their football knowledge is just huge. They are almost a perfect team at the moment, not having too many flaws at all. They crushed Blackpool in just one half a few weeks ago, scoring 4 goals on them, but they got a bit disappointed by not being able to do much against Manchester City on the road. Later we`ve witnessed their full strength again against French Marseille in CL, where they dominated the entire match, eventually only winning by 2:0 hitting several posts and woodworks, even playing without Drogba, who should be back for this clash.

Not a good form

Arsenal is clearly missing half of their starting lineup and that just got to have an effect on their performances as no team can survive for too long without the majority of their key players, no matter how much quality they have as a whole. Wenger was furious after a loss to WBA last weekend at home so he asked his players to show their best on the road trip in Belgrade last Tuesday, when they again played quite below their standards but were lucky enough Partizan didn`t have enough quality to punish them. Arsenal might be boosted by the returns of Fabregas and Vermelen, but that will surely be a matchday decision. Arshavin is probably the only guy on their squad playing in superb shape, while their striker Chamakh is proving to be quite useful too, earning a penalty in Belgrade and even scoring one goal.

Chelsea to prove their class

A classy match awaits us this Sunday, surely one of the biggest derbies in England. Chelsea is currently looking much better as a whole and are rightfully favorites to win here. Arsenal will try to record a positive result and of course prove they are not to be written off in the title race, but I`m afraid that Wenger`s depleted side will have yet another trophy drought this season. Chelsea won the last 4 meetings between these two, only once not managing to win by 2 or more goals. I think they will dominate the match and win this one much more convincingly than everybody thinks.

Partizan`s entire team and everybody supporting this club has been waiting for a match like this for about 7 years, which was the last time Partizan hosted one of the biggest European sides in CL. Partizan clearly thought about this match during their last league game against Spartak as well, so that absence of focus cost them in the finishing so they recorded their first draw of the season, still holding a top spot in the standings. They wasted a lot of good goal-scoring chances, being totally dominant but it can also be said their great, young coach Stanojevic rested a few key players in that game as well. They played quite disciplined against Shakhtar in the first round, losing only by 1:0 but they had their fair share of shots on Shakhtar`s goal and were quite equal to the Ukrainian super-expensive side, especially after they conceded the goal and opened up, proving they can play nice offensive footie only if they are not afraid to attack.

Emergency room

The Gunners are probably one of the unluckiest sides in the world when the injuries are concerned as they are constantly playing without many of their best players for a few seasons now. Coach Wenger is, of course, not desperate as he has enough quality players to field two equally good squads, which was again proven in their Carling Cup game when Wenger used many youngsters against their big rival Tottenham, eventually winning by 4:1 in ET. However, they failed to deliver when everybody expected them the most, and maybe they also thought about their CL fixture much more than they did about WBA, and the visitors took the advantage of it, shocking the Gunners with a 2:3 away win. Goalie Almunia surely won`t have a guaranteed place in their lineup in the future as his mistakes definitely cost Arsenal at least 2 of those 3 goals, and the fact they`re without players like Fabregas, Walcott, Bendtner, Van Persie, Vermaelen, Ramsey, while Gibbs and Rosicky are questionable doesn’t make it any easier on them in this match.

Brave till the end

Partizan is a whole different team compared to the last season when they lacked spirit, morale, and character. Nowadays, even though they have quite the same squad as they had back then, their play is a lot different. Coach Stanojevic emphasized they always need to attack as much as the opponent allows them and with the help of their great fans, in one surely incredible atmosphere, anything can be possible. If they don`t allow Arsenal to hold the ball for the most part of the match and easily get past them and get near their goal, then I see a big chance they eventually score against insecure Arsenal`s defense and maybe even win. The odds are definitely too big, Partizan isn`t that bad at all. The biggest advantage for the hosts here is the fact they will not be under pressure and that they have a great coach on their bench, who keeps saying how this game will be a holiday to all, both players and to all the people off the pitch, and under those circumstances, I see an inspired performance by Partizan and a possible upset. Arsenal, of course, might win by 2-3, or even more, as they`re a team that never gets tired of scoring goals, but I see Partizan`s fans and players performing at a high level and with joint forces, reaching a big result for their club. Once again, the odds are too big, and one will be able to green out in-play for sure in any case. I won`t be able to do so cause I`ll be at the game, but hope you guys use my advice here and earn some profit from this fixture. Good luck.
