Strasbourg vs Montpellier PREVIEW & PREDICTION 20/04/2019

Since the return of RC Strasbourg to Ligue 1, the team of Thierry Laurey played a draw three times in a row against Montpellier. Can we expect a draw again tonight, or is the balance finally going in favor of one of the two teams?

RC Strasbourg:

No fewer than six of the last ten league games of RC Strasbourg ended in a draw, most of all teams, and as a result, the team of Thierry Laurey is well on its way to becoming the uncrowned king of this season’s draws. It is remarkable that in the last two games le Racing both tied against the number one of the Ligue 1 (Paris Saint-Germain) and the then number last (En Avant Guingamp), which makes it difficult to gauge what is now and then can be expected from the Laurey team. With six games remaining in the Ligue 1, the answer seems to be surprisingly simple: a place in the left-hand row and victory in the Coupe de la Ligue.

One of the determining players in the selection is the 25-year-old striker Ludovic Ajorque, who has not played a match in the Ligue 1 until this season. Despite injuries in the first half of the season, Ajorque has become a fixture in the base team of his trainer and with eight goals (including four in the last five games) and an assistant in twenty league games, the Frenchman shows that his trainer is worthy of confidence. No player in the selection of le Racing can produce such a high return this season, making it very interesting to see what the attacker can show if he is fit for a season.

Montpellier:

During the entire first half of the season Montpellier was behind Paris Saint-Germain the most solid team of the Ligue 1, but in the second half of the season that sentiment changed completely. In the last ten games, three wins, three draws and four times were lost and more than nineteen goals were collected, two more than in the first 22 games of the season. The previous round was won 2-1 from Toulouse in-house, but given the form of 2019 and the fact that the last two away games were lost, Michel Der Zakarian’s team may have traveled to Strasbourg with more confidence.

With six games to go, Montpellier is still in the race for European football. If PSG wins the Coupe de France next week, then the Der Zakarian team is in fifth place enough to qualify for the preliminary rounds of the Europa League, but the competition is fierce. The gap with the current number five, Olympique Marseille, is three points, while Stade Reims and Olympique Nice are equal to les Héraults in points.

PREDICTION: Under 2,5 goals @ 1,63
