PREVIEW & PREDICTION – Torino vs Juventus 18/02/2018

Five days after the 2-2 in the first knockout round first leg in the Champions League against Tottenham waits for Juventus in Serie A the heavy city duel at Torino. Tribulation blows after the missed victory against the Spurs is not in it, because in the national championship Juventus still needs every win to pass in the table at Naples. But Torino has been in good shape lately, so on Sunday it will be anything but a runner-up for the old lady.

Only four defeats have won the Torino FC in 24 games in Serie A. Only the three leaders Naples, Juventus and Inter Milan lost less often. Why is Torino only ranked ninth in the table? Because Torino already has twelve draws on the account. These are by far the most divided matches of all twenty clubs. Accordingly, there were only eight victories for Torino FC. For seven Serie A games, Torino have been undefeated, taking three threes and four draws. In fact, Torino suffered only a loss in his last nine competitive games and that was the 0-2 at Juventus in the Coppa Italia.

At home, Torino FC knew so far quite to please. In twelve home games in Serie A, there were five wins, five more draws and only two defeats. The two Heimpleiten were against leaders Naples and the AS Roma. FC Turin have been unbeaten in four home games and have all won the last three. But that’s not all: In the last four home games of Torino also remained without a goal. FC Turin scored ten in ten home matches. Against Juventus, the home record in this millennium is anything but constructive. In nine home matches with the big brother since 2002, there was only one win and a draw alongside seven defeats. But you really should only rate the matches since the season 2012/2013. But also in the five home games since this season, there were four bankruptcies and the one mentioned victory.

What was that game on Tuesday? In the first leg of the knockout round of the Champions League Juventus led at home against Tottenham after not even nine minutes 2-0. But then missed doubles goalscorer Gonzalo Higuain only the 3: 0 and a little later, Harry Kane put on 1: 2. With the break whistle Higuain then awarded a penalty for the possible 3-1, which would have certainly given the game a very different twist. However, Tottenham made it to more than deserved equalizer in the second half, which Juventus must be happy with, but certainly not in the first 30 minutes of play. Two goals for Juventus, that does not happen that often. On 19/11/2017 Juve conceded in the 2: 3 at Sampdoria Genoa even three goals. But since the break, Juventus had conceded only one goal in the subsequent 16 (!) Competitions – until Tottenham and Harry Kane came.

In Serie A everyone is looking forward to the second leg between Juventus and Napoli, where the Scudetto is likely to decide. Currently series champion Juventus is in second place with one point behind Napoli. From their previous 24 games in Serie A, the Old Lady 20 could win. There are also two draws and defeats. At national level, Juventus have won all of their last eleven competitive matches – eight in Serie A and three in Coppa Italia. Against Torino, Juventus won 2-0, not only in Coppa Italia but also in the first leg at home with the same result.
