PREVIEW & PREDICTION – G.A. Eagles vs Oss 23/02/2018

Go Ahead longs for another three point. The Deventenaren only managed to win once in the last four months. A new chance against Oss.

Go Ahead Eagles had imagined the season quite differently. The title was not directly demanded from the Deventenaren as a relegation from the Eredivisie, but a spot in the first five was the target for the club with one of the highest budgets of the Jupiler League. Moreover, the team with Sonny Stevens, Xandro Schenk, Sjoerd Overgoor and Sam Hendriks have a lot of Eredivisie experience in the selection.

At the end of February, however, Go Ahead is on a heavily disappointing seventeenth place in the rankings. The fact that Go Ahead moved a lot on the transfer market last winter was of no avail. Attracting Rick Ketting, Levi Opdam, Mauro Savastano, Hamid Zarbaf, Aaron Nemane and Bruno Andrade has not improved the results yet. After the winter break, only MVV was won, the other five games were lost.

The Deventenaren won only one of their last fourteen matches. Moreover, only one away match was won this season. That was against Friday night’s opponent, FC Oss. On 6 October Go Ahead triumphed no less than 1-6 in the French Heesenstadion. The goals that evening came in the name of Sam Hendriks (2x), Pieter Langedijk, Joey Suk, Gideon Werkhoven and Patrick Maneschijn.

Where Go Ahead is disappointing this season, FC Oss has exceeded expectations. Coach Klaas Wels and his men are in ninth place, which entitles them to participate in the playoffs at the end of the season.

FC Oss performs quite changeable and exchanges handsome victories with disappointing defeats. For example, after the winter break, as many times as lost (both three times) were won. In the eye, the big victory over Almere City (5-1) and the great win against NEC (3-0) sprang up, but defeats are against Jong AZ and FC Dordrecht.

Last Monday, Jong Ajax was lost, which captured the leading position. Oss went down with a double play by Dani de Wit. As mitigating circumstances for the Brabanders it could be used that the team missed no fewer than six players: Thijs van Pol, Erik Quekel and Lesley de Sa have been in the rags basket for some time, while Ferry de Regt, Dennis Janssen, Fatih Kamaçi and Lorenzo Piqué are not could play. This forced Wels to improvise in his five-man defense.

Janssen, Kamaçi and Piqué are still questioning the game against Go Ahead, the other players will not be there again.
