Mainz vs RB Leipzig PREVIEW & PREDICTION 24/05/2020

On Sunday, starting with 14:30, the Mainz – Leipzig match will be played, within the 27th round of the Bundesliga, 2019/2020 edition. Leipzig won 4 of the 7 direct matches with Mainz, a group that registered only one success against the “bulls”, 3-0 in 2018. The last 3 games between the two teams were with many goals, 4-1, 3- 3 and the famous 8-0 of the tour, when Timo Werner scored a spectacular hat-trick.

Mainz manages to tick 3 stages before defeat for the first time this season, after a victory and two draws. Also, Achim Beierlorzer’s students are undefeated in the previous two direct matches with Leipzig, played at home (3-0 and 3-3). Mainz is somewhat dependent on Quaison’s successes, managing to win 7 of the 8 matches in which the Swede scored this season. In the general classification, the host team occupies the 15th place, with 27 points, with 4 over Dusseldorf, which is placed on a dam position to stay in the Bundesliga.

On the other hand, Leipzig missed an important victory in the previous round, after a modest game with Freiburg, after which they obtained only a draw, score 1-1. Thus, the team coached by Julian Nagelsmann is only on the 4th place in the ranking, with 51 points, being overtaken in the last stage by Monchengladbach. The difference compared to the Bayern leader has increased to 7 points, and Leipzig has to pull seriously to re-enter the fight for the title. From an offensive point of view, the “bulls” were at the highest level this season, already managing to score 63 goals, and their record for a full season is 66 goals (2016/2017).

Leipzig is expected to react quickly after the draw in the last stage, and Mainz does not have the necessary quality for another positive result.
