On Monday evening, from 19:45, Serbia travels to Vilnius for the match with Lithuania, from the Euro 2020 preliminaries. The Serbs need great points in a group of Ukraine and Portugal, the main qualifying favorites.
Serbia is in 3rd place in group B, with only 7 points in 5 matches. Portugal has 11 points and Ukraine seems already qualified, with 16 points and no failure so far. The Serbs left behind only the Luxembourg nationals (4 points) and Lithuania (one point), but a success at Vilnius would keep their hopes of qualification alive, especially if Portugal will still make the wrong steps.
Serbs come after good performances with Lithuania (4-1 at home), Luxembourg (3-1) and Paraguay (1-0), but failures with Ukraine (0-5) and Portugal (2-4) have highlighted the defensive problems of the “plavas”. Lithuania is an unpretentious opponent, who plays an inefficient 4-5-1 system: 1-4 with Serbia, 0-3 with Ukraine, 1-5 with Lithuania and 0-2 with Ukraine are the last scores.
Serbia has not been in talks with the Baltics, which they have defeated in the last three consecutive games, including the UEFA Nations League groups, in the same series in which Romania played. Serbs will be dangerous again through Mitrovic, Ljajic, Gavranovic or Milinkovic-Savic, and the difference in value will make the difference in this duel. Lithuania is unlikely to score here.
