Hoffenheim vs Bayern Munich PREVIEW & PREDICTION 18/01/2019

Bayern Munich starts the second half of the season with the traditionally tricky away match against TSG Hoffenheim. What can we expect from this game?

TSG Hoffenheim:

TSG Hoffenheim performed somewhat below par in the first half of the season. Hoffe’s matches were often spectacular, but the attractive game was not always linked to good results. Only six of the seventeen finished matches ended in a victory for Hoffenheim. In the Champions League, TSG also played some exciting matches. Even though the European season after the fourth place in the group phase is coming to an end. Without the distraction of European football, the blue-whites might perform better in the competition. Curiously, the last five league matches for the winter break for Hoffenheim all ended in a draw.

A problem for coach Julian Nagelsmann so far was that he had to deal with the necessary injured players. The infirmary is still not completely empty, even though things are better than a few months ago. Kerem Demirbay is a doubtful case for Friday’s match. To really make a fist against Bayern, his presence is actually necessary. Hoffenheim can cling to good recent results against the national champion. The last two home matches against the Munich team were won.

FC Bayern:

Bayern Munich was far from superior in the first half of the season in the Bundesliga. This was getting used to for the fans. In previous seasons, Bayern was lord and master in the competition and it was only the question if one would become champion. This year a serious competitor has arisen with Borussia Dortmund. The backlog of number two Bayern on the leader is currently six points. “We can not afford many more mistakes,” Joshua Kimmich concluded in the winter break.

Trainer Niko Kovac starts the second half of the season without his two veterans on the wings. Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery – both of whom have been working as a selection player for Der FCB in their final months – are injured. For the time being it is not the year of Corentin Tolisso either. The French midfielder is still absent. In the winter summit, Bayern strengthened with the young Alphonso Davies, who came over from the Vancouver Whitecaps. We will have to wait and see if he is immediately a reinforcement, or that he needs some time to get used to this new level.
